Munch masterpieces destroyed?
Aftenposten (Norway) ^ | April 28, 2005 | Unsigned

The Munch masterpieces "The Scream" and "Madonna" have been incinerated, according to newspaper Dagbladet, citing criminal sources and a top secret police report.

The paper claimed Thursday that the paintings were destroyed in order to get rid of damning evidence as the police investigation closes in on the culprits behind the robbery.

Investigation leader Iver Stensrud of the Oslo police said he had no knowledge of the supposedly secret report acknowledging the destruction of the paintings.

"This is completely unknown to Oslo police. I basically have no comment and normally we do not use Dagbladet as a reliable source here at the Oslo police," Stensrud told NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting).

Three people are in custody in connection with the Munch robbery, but none of them are linked to crime via technical evidence, and the pair that carried out the heist are considered to be at large.

Dagbladet cited both criminal and police sources in their reportage, and said that police expect new arrests in the case shortly.

Better than that, there exists an alternative oil on cardboard version which most experts believe is the original. It's at the National Gallery in Oslo. Here goes:

I prefer the newer version, though. But as you say, it will live on in reproductions anyway.

I loved the Dali museum! I was fortunate to go through with a great docent who explained many of the nuances and idiosyncracies of the various paintings. Amazing place! They were selling coffee mugs in the gift shop with a picture of Dali on them saying "I am a madmad, but I am not mad" , or something to that effect.

You come looking for a fight and then are upset when you get one?

Did you expect to sling insults and have no one challenge you?

The personality type has nothing to do with agreeing or disagreeing. It has to do with someone who strains at minutia while hiding from a bigger problem.

It is par for the course for what you state your positions are.

I don't even know what this is supposed to mean:

It has to do with someone who strains at minutia while hiding from a bigger problem.

Nor do I especially care, as I sense that rational discourse isn't your strong suit.

Just for reference, here is a pic of the "Madonna", also missing and reported destroyed.

I will try to use small words. You have a hissy fit over a remark about a painting but say nothing on a thread that is (in your opinion) "pullulated(sic) with racist sentiment"

You strain out gnats and swallow camels.

Like The Scream, the Madonna exists in several versions. Here is the one that is stolen - by far the most beautiful one:

I agree. The one I posted reminds me vaguely of some pro-life poster (not looking for an abortion thread, it just does.).

Actually I left two comments on that thread, which I linked to for your reference. That was what I had time for at the time. I did not have the time for what would doubtless be a lengthy exchange with the many racists on that thread.

Nonetheless you wouldn't even have known about this if I hadn't blamed myself for it on this thread. But does that restrain you from making it the occasion of a multi-post sanctimonious diatribe about my 'personality type' that somehow is supposed to tie in with posts I've made on countless other threads you haven't read? Oh no.

Color me unimpressed, lady.

You are quite right, the little figure represents a fetus. Not that the artist had anything political in mind - the Madonna simply celebrates the moment of conception and thus, human life.

You said nothing about the "pullulated(sic) with racist sentiment".

Oh I am sure you were busy. But you have time to argue with me over your attack on this thread. So why don't you go back and engage those "many racists"?

Nonetheless you wouldn't even have known about this if I hadn't blamed myself for it on this thread.

You are quite right. You just had to show off. And it tripped you up.

But does that restrain you from making it the occasion of a multi-post sanctimonious diatribe about my 'personality type' that somehow is supposed to tie in with posts I've made on countless other threads you haven't read?

LOL! Sanctimonious? Who was it that labeled a art criticism "vitriol"?

When it comes to sanctimony I could not even aspire to your lofty heights.

You brought up the thread in post #49 as a way of defending your generally flung vitriol on this thread. I made no comments about your past posts until you brought the subject up in post #55 when you informed me.

Your time line is a little screwed up.

Not anymore, I haven't.

Your time line is a little screwed up.

Then you and it have something in common, it appears.

- but how could anybody possibly buy it now? Even the most corrupt collector would know he could never show it to anybody.

An obsessed collector doesn't care how a piece is obtained and is more interested in having than in showing.

Good for you!

You are learning about priorities. There might be hope for you after all.

Dali had creative ideas, but he was so caught up in bizarre fetishes that his sexually graphic paintings are more pornographic than artistic to me. There are plenty of great artists and magnificent works of art to admire without wasting time on disgusting ones.

It just needs the gold-colored Jean-Paul Gaultier pointy cone-shaped bra.

Not only that, but someone on this forum had the audacity to suggest that Christopher Marlowe wrote the plays of William Shagsper. The nerve!
