VIDEO/PHOTO ESSAY: VIVA LA RAZA IN D.C.
So, my Sony Handycam and I attended the illegal alien demonstration in D.C. yesterday. Here are some of the more interesting moments captured on tape:
The goofy, out-of-place-looking, non-Spanish speaker on the right was standing on a street corner with a bunch of astroturf "homemade" signs written in Spanish. He handed them out to Latino protesters on their way to the main venue on the Mall. I asked the sign guy what organization he was with and he stopped me from taping him. Off-camera he told me he didn't know where the signs came from (uh-huh) and that he had no idea what they said (that I believe). Watch the clip (.wmv file).
Some black radicals, fists a-waving, tried to get the protesters worked up: "Revolucion!" I was glad to hear the passers-by chuckling at the fools. Watch the clip.
Here's the Mall about an hour before the official start.
Spotted several bright yellow government school buses. (Didn't get it on tape, but as I was driving home I noted that one of the school buses shuttling protesters had "McLean, Va." painted on the side. Taxpayers in that town might want to give their school board a call. Another charter bus carrying marchers was owned by Crown.)
This was the scene near the front of the main stage. A lot of shoving and shouting and "Si, se puedes!" Watch the clip.
A protest organizer on the main stage led the crowd in English rehearsals of the Pledge of Allegiance. He definitely needed the practice: "One nation, undivisible (sic)..." Watch the clip.
Two of my favorite moments:
A few hapless SEIU organizers tried and failed to lead protesters streaming onto the mall with clumsily shouted Spanish chants...
...and another SEIU leader failed to get them to follow his traffic signals. Watch the clip.
Meanwhile, someone in the crowd targeted CNN's Lou Dobbs, bane of the open borders left and right.
And some bilingual LaRouchies turned up.
While the mainstream media focused on protesters who wrapped themselves in red, white, and blue...
...the inevitable Che cultists marched defiantly at the back of the pack. Watch the clip.
There were, of course, no identifiable ICE agents or any other DHS personnel in sight. All in all, it was a great day to be an illegal alien in the nation's capital. As these happy young protesters (perhaps earning school credit?) put it: "Viva La Raza!" Watch the clip.
"Long live the Race!"
What's so pro-American about that?

I had to leave before the English-language bloviations began. The Political Pit Bull has C-SPAN segments of illegal alien voter recruitment leader Teddy Kennedy...
...and one Imam Johari Abdul-Malik.

COUNTER PROTEST IN BERKELEY
The CalPatriot blog shares pictures of a small but stalwart pro-immigration enforcement contingent at UC Berkeley today (hat tip: Tom):
Anti-enforcement forces attempted to block these pro-borders messages with...
...a Mexican flag.
Gotta love the self-proclaimed center of the Free Speech Movement.

LIVE FROM NEW YORK
Two correspondents who attended the New York anti-immigration enforcement demonstration have sent reports.
MacLachlan snapped photos posted over at his Flickr page and sends these comments:
#1,28 - Crying out, "Bandidos para todos los paises" This is the chief reason for the number of flags at the protest
#3 - School Bus; don't know if it was picking up or dropping off, City Hall Academy is in the vicinity, but "younger" members of the protest had flyers with walk out information on it.
#5,7,8,9,30 - Signs sponsored by ANSWER, ISO, and other leftist organizations
#16 - Professors? Communist? Perish the thought.
#13,17,27 - The ever popular meme
#21,23 - Both posters have the same basic format and language in English and Spanish EXCEPT for the phrase in quotes in the lower-right. The Spanish phrase (I had to ask for translation) translates loosely as "A united people can never be defeated." Definitely doesn't correlate to the English version of the sign
#24 - Of Course, Air America was present
#25 - Lovely Fascist Iconography
#29 - "Send the President a postcard" with translation services. I hope the White House is prepped for the Stock Reply letters, or maybe they should pass on the return addresseses to INS
#2,9 - Several Unions were out in force, Local 78(?) (no picture) especially. The "We are America" signs in #2, along with an alternate "Today We Rally(?), Tomorrow We Vote" were provided en masse by the SEIU
There were several organizers who spoke declaring "Borders are not sacred. No Human being is illegal." Illegals are here "for one reason, to work" but were still "Good Americans." Local Latin Radio Station, 93.1, sent two DJs who addressed the protest almost entirely in Spanish. Rep. Serrano (D-NY) addressed the protest bilingually, declaring he emigrated illegally from the Dominican Republic in 1964. He also declared that illegals were true inheritors of the "American Dream," another popular meme. He finished by repeating "This is OUR Country" several times bilingually." Sen. Clinton spoke for about five minutes. She emphasized the importance of "the work YOU do." She also issued congratulatory "call-outs" to the stereotypical professions of illegals (housekeeping, landscaping, food service, construction, etc.) She also called for "comprehensive reform" of immigration law, briefly mentioning the Dem's typical talking point on national security that she wanted "to strengthen border security." Then a NY State Assemblymen whose name I did not catch, but who chairs their "Black, Latino, Asian Caucus," began to speak and I started my exit. I was just out of earshot by the time the next speaker got up.
All that said, the protest was a lot calmer than I expected, especially in comparison to the reports out of Dallas. I assume that's because La Raza isn't calling for New York to become part of Aztlan.
Not yet, anyway.
Almighty Allah Pundit was also in attendance and sent audio of the Democrat pandering speeches and open-borders entertainment.
A band called "Outernational" provided music, including a song dedicated to the Muslims who rioted in France last year called "Riviera Uproar." Listen here.
Hillary "Never mind what I said about illegal immigrants, open the borders now!" Clinton spoke: listen here.
April 10, 2006: "Thank you for your contributions to this country. "
Feb 2003: "I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants."
Also listen, if you can stand it, to:
Al Sharpton
Charlie Rangel
Chuck Schumer
Eliot Spitzer
Jose Serrano
Dear Robert and friends,
You ought to be paying more attention to the Arab links to the illegal immigration protests. It is an odd alliance of racist, anti-semitic Chicanoists, Islamists, and Communists. This is an open threat to our democracy.

Some of the connections are out in the open, but there are many murky "organizers" whose identity is not revealed. I've gone to some web sites and drawn some connections, like to Workers' World and to Troops Out Now, and earlier, into some Chicanoist sites with ties to Communist organizations. CAIR is calling for active involvement in these protests.Posted by: Dumb Ox at April 10, 2006 04:18 PM
