Muslims use Quran to wage war against terror
Associated Press ^ | 03/27/2005 | Brian Murphy

Moderate Muslims are increasingly turning to Islam's sacred core - the Quran and the laws and traditions it inspires - to defend their views and discredit radicals as part of a ''counter-jihad'' for Islamic hearts and minds. Terrorist attacks by al-Qaida and other militant groups add urgency to the ideological debate, which challenges the dominance of Saudi Arabia's fundamentalist Wahhabist strain that has used its wealth and influence to mute moderate Islamic voices. ''The long and painful silence of moderate theologians and experts in Islam jurisprudence - who had been bought off or intimidated into silence - is finally starting to break apart,'' said Khaled Abou El Fadl, an authority on Islamic law at the University of California, Los Angeles. ''We are seeing signs of a counter-jihad.'' The March 11 fatwa by Spain's highest Muslim authority and the deluge of support messages appeared to touch the frustration among mainstream Muslims. But the response was dominated by those outside the Middle East, suggesting the centers of moderate influence reside outside traditional Muslim areas. From Canada: ''Thank you for taking a stand.'' From the United States: ''I'm glad that someone of authority in Islam is taking a stand and demanding their religion back from the terrorists who have hijacked it.'' From Australia: ''This is important. This has the possibility for real impact.'' From Mexico: ''All good Muslims are with you.'' ''This shows the Muslim world is tired of the harm that radicals and terrorists are doing to Islam,'' said Escudero, whose declaration carried the support of Muslim leaders in Morocco, Algeria and Libya. ''We hope this will inspire others to speak out.'' But this, however, risks even more friction with Islam's radical fringe, who have long used their own Quranic interpretations to justify attacks on non-Muslims and others.

Islam is a religion of peace. The moderates just needed to be enabled to take control.

Thank. You. Bush.

It's about dang time, they certainly waited long enough. It's been 3 1/2 years since 9/11, and the radical towelhead problem was in existence long before then.

It's not at all a religion of peace, but if that illusion stops them from bombing innocent people, I'm all for it.

No it is not. Islam was founded on a base of violence and mysogyny. Mohammed went on more than 70 military conquests in 10 years. He ordered women stoned to death for adultery.

Using the Quaran to fight Terror is like using the McDonald's Menu to fight Obesity.

What's to interpret?

Koran:
[9.29] Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.

[9.30] And the Jews say: Uzair is the son of Allah; and the Christians say: The Messiah is the son of Allah; these are the words of their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before; may Allah destroy them; how they are turned away!

Muslims use Quran to wage war against terror.

Qur’an 8:12 “I shall terrorize the infidels. So wound their bodies and incapacitate them because they oppose Allah and His Apostle.”

Qur’an 8:57 “If you gain mastery over them in battle, inflict such a defeat as would terrorize them, so that they would learn a lesson and be warned.”

Qur’an 8:67 “It is not fitting for any prophet to have prisoners until he has made a great slaughtered in the land.”

Qur’an 7:3 “Little do you remember My warning. How many towns have We destroyed as a raid by night? Our punishment took them suddenly while they slept for their afternoon rest. Our terror came to them; Our punishment overtook them.”

Qur’an 33:26 “Allah made the Jews leave their homes by terrorizing them so that you killed some and made many captive. And He made you inherit their lands, their homes, and their wealth. He gave you a country you had not traversed before.”

Qur’an 59:2 “It was Allah who drove the [Jewish] People of the Book from their homes and into exile. They refused to believe and imagined that their strongholds would protect them against Allah. But Allah came at them from where they did not suspect, and filled their hearts with terror. Their homes were destroyed. So learn a lesson, O men who have eyes. This is My warning…they shall taste the torment of Fire.”

Qur’an 33:60 “Truly, if the Hypocrites stir up sedition, if the agitators in the City do not desist, We shall urge you to go against them and set you over them. Then they will not be able to stay as your neighbors for any length of time. They shall have a curse on them. Whenever they are found, they shall be seized and slain without mercy—a fierce slaughter—murdered, a horrible murdering.”

Qur’an 8:7 “Allah wished to confirm the truth by His words: ‘Wipe the infidels out to the last.’”

And my all time favorite Surah from the Koran.

Qur’an 8:39 “So, fight them till all opposition ends and the only religion is Islam.”

Islamic hocus pocus

Bukhari (Hadiths) are by far more hostile and murderous than the Koran is as well. Kudos, on doing some research on the Koran as also :)

''Thank you for taking a stand.''

Thanks for taking a stand? Are you kidding me? They wait almost 4 long years and now that the terrorists are on the run and Bush's policies in the ME are working ... suddenly they are taking a stand?

puh-lease

Anyone can take a stand when the tide has turned. Oh, how brave we are, aren't we? Where were they up to now?

These people should have stood up as one on September 12, professed there committment to peace and denounced 'Radical' Islam in the loudest possible voices. They didn't. What does that tell you?

And they get thanked? Give me a freakin' break. Save your thanks for the people dying in the cause of democracy and liberation. Thank our troops and President Bush, they deserve it not these people jumping on the bandwagon when vistory looks at hand.

''The long and painful silence of moderate theologians and experts in Islam jurisprudence - who had been bought off or intimidated into silence - is finally starting to break apart,''

A textbook used at the Islamic Saudi Academy of Alexandria, Va., in 2004, authored and published by the Saudi Ministry of Education, teaches first graders that "all religions, other than Islam, are false, including that of the Jews [and] Christians." An ISA class valedictorian, Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, was recently indicted for plotting to assassinate President Bush

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Many a socialist would point to the crusades and say that christianity is not a religion of peace.

Everything is up for interpretation. With the majority of muslims not being extremists and not wanting to kill people(I doubt there is any large/modern society that has a majority that wants to kill people) that makes it about peace.

Remember, religion is(from what I understand, here comes that interpretation thing) less about setting up your entire life and more about being a framework in how you live your life. There's a certain degree of common sense that goes into it, as well as one's own internal wants/needs/goals.

For most people, muslims included, that simply means living out their lives eating lots of food and watching your kids grow up. Having a nice job. Sleeping in a nice bed.

Look at the news that comes out of Iraq that the liberal media does not report. These are peaceful people. Look at Lebanon. More peaceful people. Egypt. Look at Iran's Pink Revolution. Yet more peaceful people. Even the palestinians. Look at some of the polling, most of them don't want to continue the death either. The middle has been fueled by death and rage and hatred and all of that because of the few. The elite. The tyrants.

The people....... The mainstream.... The masses. They don't want it.

suggesting the centers of moderate influence reside outside traditional Muslim areas.

But of course the centers of the most extreme radicalism also reside outside traditional Muslim areas. The 9/11 attacks, the Spain bombings, etc.--all of these came from Europe.

There's nothing that says *how* you fight them. Fights in congress are conducted with words. The fight in lebanon against hezbollah was conducted without weapons.(the marching just a few weeks ago) So was the fight against the USSR.

awww, what a beautiful piece of religious prose. Ranks right up there with "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

Radical Islam is a cult, not a religion.

I do not want too be banned from FR at all but, may I make a honest statement. If one is too be a good Muslim he must follow the teachings of Mohammed too the letter. So I suggest this, Muslims that fight and die for Allah are the "good Muslims" the Muslims that do not, are the "Bad Muslims". I am aware that the mainstream media would never dare too say such a thing, but, reality, is reality. In my opinion, we are fighting the "good Muslims".

Jeff

Too any FR Moderators, This was not too incite violence, in any way shape or form. Just an informed opinion on the Koran.

The tyrranies have to either A) be completely removed or B) be shown that they are threatened if they're too tyrannical before the people can take a stand.

We all saw the Gassings in Iraq. They tried to take a stand a decade ago. Perhaps I should have worded it like this...

"thank you for still having the will to take a stand now that they tyrant/s are gone".

What does that tell you?

State sanctioned rapists and murders comes to mind.

Give me a freakin' break. Save your thanks for the people dying in the cause of democracy and liberation.

Oh hell no. How on earth can you contradict yourself in the same post?

What's the point of democratizing them in your mind, if not to enable them to make their own decisions instead of what their leaders want? Do you not realize........ ahh forget it. If you did you wouldn't have made that statement.

Sorry. It does that automatically when I do an excerpt. I'll try using a different character from now on.

When I use the "-" in succession is what does that.

This messageboard seems to not like that.

^^^^^^^^^I thought it was 2 different posts^^^^^^^^^^^^^

No more. :-) It's just how I reply to posts.

Islamic schools all over the world teach what is in the quran and hadiths. When quran says that non-Muslims are "lowest of creature (8.55), unclean (8.28), perverts (9.30), evil (16.27-29)," that is what the children are taught.
