LONDON (Reuters) - Heidi Brown was told she could park her new scooter outside the vehicle registration office while she waited to get license plates.
To her horror, it was blown up by the army after someone reported that it might be a bomb.
Police in Ipswich, eastern England, confirmed on Thursday that a moped had been blown up in a controlled explosion after local business people "raised concerns" that it could be a bomb.
"The moped was chained to the perimeter fence outside the building. We weren't able to identify whose vehicle it was because there were no license plates on it," said a spokeswoman for Suffolk police.
She said the surrounding office buildings were evacuated and three roads were closed off.
The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported the scooter belonged to Brown, a 22-year-old care worker, who said she had been told she could leave it there awaiting inspection.
OH my! What irony! Poor girl, i hope they give her a new scooter!
or they decide to blow things up very quickly.
We should have free scooters waiting for illegal immigrants who are weight-challenged.

In their defense, I remember Rush talking about the One-Eyed Omar in the Taliban forming Suicide Death Squads. They reportedly took rider lawn mowers to the roofs of high buildings and cliffs, and when they saw a low-flying chopper, they would plunge the lawn mover down, in the hope of crashing into the chopper blades.

LOL! Not only that, but I'm not sure I get the strategy of blowing something up because, um, otherwise it might blow up.
I'm sure the company she bought her scooter from will likely give her a new scooter because the original was destroyed for reasons that have nothing to do with traffic violations of any sort. That is before some enterprising newspaper in the UK puts up the money and gives her a top-end Honda or Vespa scooter in no time flat.
Well, yes, blowing up the scooter was silly but I have to cut the Brits some slack as they have reports/threats of "Real Ira" bomb plots underway.
as our new savant, how does one get their new, plateless vehicle inspected?? ride the scooter into the building??hire somone to stall the cops? (once they're there with something nice to blow up, you think the non-owner's gonna stop them?) buy so many scooters that they can't blow them all up?? do tell......
