Sorry. I just couldn't resist putting it in breaking news. I couldn't. Really. I tried not to.

Would you be so kind as to ping the usual suspects?

My money's on Spielberg. I don't care how big a lefty he is, the man can make some movies.

Hard to imagine anything topping the 1953 WOTW. Forbidden Planet and WOTW are my picks for best sci-fi flicks. The special effects in both were awesome.

The stills looked cool, but the trailer really left me cold. There sure wasn't any coherence in that sequence of half-second snippets.

Watched part of the '53 WOTW on AMC the other night. It has held up well.

I like your idea of a SV FReeper get together. Keep me posted.

All that trailer was missing was Dr. Who's TARDIS.

I could slink down as far as San Rafael for an adventure of that sort ... I hate going into the city, though.

Seems to me that the two movies are going to be sufficiently different that I could enjoy both of them!

If I remember correctly, the original movie
ended with a voiceover crediting "the littlest
of God's creatures" (Earth viruses)with saving
humanity. Will Spielberg avoid that and just turn
in "a fun rollercoaster ride" of a movie?

The 1953 version is still a great movie.

I'll probably see both the new versions eventually. The only problem I have with Spielberg is his tendency to make his movie endings poisonously sweet.

Sometimes it works for me, like in A.I. and other times it ruins the whole rest of the movie for me as in Minority Report.

Of course, Wells was an atheist and a socialist so if either version is true to Wells' anti-Christian subtext, no one should be surprised.

War of the Worlds has always been one of my favorites (books/movies/audio productions/etc.). It may never make it out here to Virginia, but I'd really like to see the Pendragon version.

Sorry, but I'll be out of state on the 30th. But I'll keep an eye out for the movie [if it's still in theaters shen I get back].

So, was it released this past Spring? Where? When's it coming out on DVD? I'd rather watch a version that's true to HG Well's book.
