I have some 7,000 year old cypress wood from a submerged forest in Santa Rosa Sound, Florida.
GGG Ping.
The Last Ice Age ended in three significant rapid meltings, this was the last of those three 'surges'. I thought it was closer to 7-8,000 years ago rather than 8-9,000 years ago.
This last surge opened up the Strait Of Mallacca which allowed the refugees from Sundaland to sail in that direction into Egypt, Mesopotamia, India and planted the seeds of Western Civilization. (Many trekked up the river valleys of Asia)
I was under the impression that dendochronology based on California Bristlecone pine forests currently permits dating using tree rings back 9,000 years. I wonder if this discovery could be used to extend the database and technique?
At one time Australia reached all the way out to past where the GBR is now located more than 10 miles from its current shores.
Isn't that cool. Thanks for the picture and the explanation.
Cool name for a nightclub!
