They call them "gunmen" because they weren't using crossbows. Duh!

My revolver also has .45ACP engraved on the barrel.

We get it at the local gun store, made by Federal last time I checked.

yeah yeah. I know. But If you're looking in brochures or catalogs for colt 45 ammo, it's always listed as "45LC". And if you're looking for 45 auto, it's always listed as "45ACP"

Now since you got me on the subject, I've been waiting a long long time for someone to start builting a 4 barrel derringer in 45LC that I can load up with 410 shotshells. I know that at one time, someone was making a 4 barrel hammerless derringer in 357 mag, and it was called the "Concealed Off-duty Police"... or C.O.P. for short. Now As far as I know, they never got around to making one in .45LC....but they sure shoulda!

You ever heard of what I'm looking for? I just think that would be just the perfect pocket pistol. You can get three pieces of 00 buck in a .410 shotshell, and that would be just the thing for a 4 barrel derringer, dontcha think?

Yes, I have heard of such things. Damn thing would be uncontrollable and illegal at the same time.

It would only be illegal if it was designed specifically for shotshells. If it was designed specifically for 45LC, but that somehow or another it could be made to fuctions also with, ahem, .410 shotshells, well, that wouldn't be illegal. (I think)

There are already 2 barrel .45 derringers out there that will take 410 shotshells.

I suppose it was uncovered somewhere earlier in this massive thread but I found this in your link. Thanks for posting it.

Robert Bonelli Jr., 25, of Glasco allegedly fired more than 50 rounds from a semiautomatic rifle, sending mall patrons and employees running for cover.

Lays to rest the BS about "machine guns." What a shock, the media lies again!

Piper, found out last night videotapes were found at Bonelli's home, with 2 others participating in making pipe bombs and practicing,,,, Bonelli has a fascination with Columbine, and it seems he and his 2 buddies were planning on a Columbine-like attack at our Saugerties school on @ April 1. The other 2 were arrested yesterday. In a sense, I guess, maybe it's a good thing Bonelli flipped out and jumped the gun by going to the mall Sunday. Very scary stuff.

I'm more of a fan of Derringers than most, and find the two-barrelled versions more suitable. An ankle carrier for the little gun can also be set up to carry a spare magazine for a more serious piece in the same caliber, offering a little redundancy should something mechanical fail at the worst possible time, as it usually will. The ammo in the extra magazine can be used for the little backup instead, if so necessary, or if the primary carry gun is working okay, it may be handy to be able to offer the smaller backup to a qualified friend who forgot to bring something along.

I'm not overly impressed with Derringers, but I dopn't dismiss them entirely, either. But I'd think having a pair of double-barrelled guns would be preferable to the idea of a four-shoot version.

You ever see a Semmerling LM-4 .45 hideout gun? Here's a pic to compare one to the COP .357 you mentioned:

No, I've never seen or heard of one of those. the picture looks like a rather old fashioned gun. Is it still made?

The problem with the smooth bore double barrel derringers in .45 that I've seen is that they have the barrels side by side. Part of the reason derringers are so attractive is how narrow they are. But if your barrels are side by side, you just lost that feature, so you might as well go for 2 more barrels and make it a 4 barrel gun.

If I knew where to get over-under double barrel derringers in .45 with smooth bores that were long enough and sturdy enough to take .410 shotshells, I'd probably go for it.

Your philosophy of two double barrels does have it's attractions. But now that you got me thinking about the matched pair concept, I'm thinking I'd really like a matched pair of 4 barrels...ha

Oh, I'm SO glad you asked:

The Semmerling LM-4 *sort-of* Derringer

The barrels of a handgun that can accept shotloads must be at least shallowly rifled, lest the weapon enter the legal classification of a sawed-off shotgun. But check out the Number 1 Model American Derringer, chambered for .45 Colt and .410. Also available in longer-barrelled versions....

And do note that they have a 4-barrelled version listed on the webpage directory, though not yet in production. But an offer to be a beta-tester might be well-received, and such an offer and the follow-up correspondence with Liz Saunders would be a lot more pleasant than dealing with a lot of folks I more usually do business with.
