Sempra Energy said it had awarded nearly $1.2 billion in contracts to build liquefied natural gas terminals in Baja California and Lake Charles, La.
Construction will begin soon on the company's proposed LNG terminal, called Energia Costa Azul, 14 miles north of Ensenada, Sempra said. The San Diego company said it expected to complete negotiations this year for the LNG supply to its proposed Louisiana terminal and then would begin building that facility.

If you would build them in California, that would be more efficient, but no. The free market even helps them who won't help themselves.
Schwarzenegger keen on gas deal: PM

June 4, 2004After a "very positive" meeting of less than 30 minutes, the Australian Prime Minister reported yesterday that the Governor of California seemed keen to consummate a deal worth more than $US4 billion ($A5.75 billion) to supply energy-poor California with liquefied natural gas.
"The Governor himself expressed a keen desire to see that our negotiations were brought to a successful conclusion," Mr Howard said. "He expressed great interest in a partnership between Australia and California."
Yes, there were hurdles, especially concerning the environment, the unfamiliarity of the Californian market with LNG and a push for Mexico to supply California's energy needs. But the response of Mr Schwarzenegger was encouraging.

The natural gas line over the Peruvian Andes has just recently been finished, and there is a big push on now to get the LNG plant built on the coast near Lima.
The gas from that plant will feed Sempra's plant in Baja.
The Bolivians were hoping to cash in similarly, building their own natural gas pipeline to the Pacific, but the left managed to shut it down. Geniuses.

Could be. I also heard that it was coming from Russia.
But I'm somewhat familiar with the Peruvian gas project, and it was always intended, or hoped, that it would export to California by way of Sempra. Its been a long haul, but the pipeline is built. Now they are trying to kick off the LNG plant.
Maybe in planning their project, Sempra didn't put all their eggs in one basket. It could be they have contracts with more than one supplier.

Hydrogen currently costs $4 to $10 per kilogram, the unit in which it is measured, and the H2H's fuel tank holds five to six kg of hydrogen. GM believes that if hydrogen is to be commercially viable it must cost $2 to $2.25 per kg--that is, it must be competitive with gasoline prices.
