Indiana State Police Superintendent Melvin J. Carraway has been appointed federal security director at Albuquerque's international airport.

"He is an accomplished and knowledgeable professional whose experience will be a great asset at Albuquerque," David Stone, Transportation Security Administration chief, said Monday in announcing Carraway's appointment.

The job of security director was created by the Aviation and Transportation Security Act signed by President Bush on Nov. 19, 2001.

Carraway was the first black appointed to head the Indiana State Police in its 71-year history. He was appointed to the job when the late Frank O'Bannon was elected Indiana governor in 1996.

Carraway was one of several Indiana government department heads asked to resign after Republican Mitch Daniels was elected Indiana governor, said Mary Downes, chief of staff for outgoing Democratic Gov. Joe Kernan.

Under Democratic governors, Carraway advanced through the ranks of the state police and Indiana government.

He was the head of the state police enforcement division in September 1994, when he was chosen to head the Indiana Emergency Management Agency under then-Gov. Evan Bayh.

Good Riddance, he has done NOTHING for the Indiana State Police except appoint and promote all his friends and family, destroy morale and further the spread of the liberal appearance based management principles. The only thing in 8 years was to reduce the retiree’s insurance cost. But we got letters telling us how great he was doing, while his executive staff did things that would get Troopers fired and they got no punishment because they were exempt from the rules. Let the Feds have him.

Just brilliant. More C.R.A.P. from the Bush-Bots of the Bush Administration.

It will probably come as a surprise to the Department of Defense, that the President's staff have dumped a ball and chain Clintonista upon Kirtland A.F.B.

Rumsfeld will be thrilled. The base commander even more thrilled. The communists of Gov. Richardson's offices, will be the most thrilled, to have their man in charge of the southeast quadrant.

This place requires the best of perimeter security, which Air Force types understand and set up well at ABQ.

Now will come a bureaucratic synchophant of the Democrat Party, fussing over all the employees self-esteem and making speeches of great sensitivity.

...but think of all the money Americans will will not have to spend on airline travel after the airlines go bankrupt.

Of course they will still have to pay the salaries of the millions of TSA drones milling around the empty airports, so I guess it's a wash.

Bush should have taken a cue from clinton and named these guys the "Securi-Corps".

Then he'll fit right in King Bill's fiefdom here in NM.
