worldwideschool.org is an interesting site. Thank you for posting it. b.

I stand corrected. It was their descendants that became a nest of sneaky, lying, devious, rotten SNAKES!!!
**Fortunately, since the invaders were French, the Romans didn't have to have to make any repairs to the Public Baths!**
It was just a joke! My Roman Civ Professor also told me it wasn't accurate (after I made it in class) but he laughed all the same.
Ah well, Experientia docet stultos
They unearthed a Gaul village a few meters from my house while building a new theater. The works were stopped for months because of the richness of the site : they found cooking ustensiles, a village oven as big as a house, weapons, coins, the works.
This thread's sarcasm aside, it always gives me pause when I think I, living in an essentially Gallo-Roman country, can have a look and even visit a place that predated the Roman invasion.
"Those kidnapped French journalists are moving around with their captors, filming violence, murder, etc.. Maybe they're forced to do this, but who knows."
They are filming things ?
"While the archaeologist's could not definitely identify who the flags belonged to, they were definitely certain that the flag with the SNAKE on it was surely French!"
I think I remember another flag with a snake on it...
"It just proves that France's preferred tactic has always been to make loud noises and hope the enemy leaves them alone. A more practical course of action for a French army than actually fighting."
May I suggest that you read some History books, Jason ?
Gaul divided in three parts?
Yeah, I was wondering. Cool. Thanks for the pix.
Musta dropped them when they were retreating....
The Celts werent French the remains of the Celtic people are the Scots, Irish and the Bretons, not a group inclined to retreat.
On a lighter note, I love historical finds like this. I always wonder about the articles when they were new. I wonder about the people who held them in their hands, and what were they thinking when they buried them. How different or alike are we? Great find! Congratulations!
I suppose it was one of the more notable statements that stick out in your mind, e.g. "Illa iacta est", especially if you have to memorize it by rote.
Personally, with the exception of word stems, roots and derivatives, there's not much about the basic structure of Latin that I still remember.
To be honest, it's a lot more helpful in terms of vocabulary enhancement and acquiring other languages.
I've left most of the declension tables and verb conjugations by the wayside.
Yes, so do I. However, unlike the French, no one has been able to tread on that one.
I like this line:
"Experts say the experts could be a real "war trophy", and appear to have been buried for religious reasons."
The mentalimage is just.. amusing.
