I really like the inevitability of the Darwinian argument here: There's nothing the Dems can do - they will just abort themselves out of existence.

The Bush states have far higher birth rates than the Kerry states and in the Kerry states the Bush areas have higher birth rates. Abortion is the "final solution" for the "liberal problem".

This moron misses the point. Quote "Evangelicals'" mission and purpose is not to multiply and be fruitful (that's catholics, just kidding), it's to save as many people from damnation as possible. and THAT'S why there are so many of us. The word Evangelism in and of itself says that it is the dissemination of the gospel, as through missionary work.
Now, to dispel the rumors that all evangelicals want forcibly convert everyone. the essence of Christianity is to willingly give your life to Jesus. How can you force someone to believe something that they have to willingly do? The idea of evangelism to, as the author Rick Warren says, "Save one more for Jesus."

I thought this was going to be a typical academic sneer about the lack of intelligence of Christian's and their hopelessly out of date beliefs. Instead, while it doesn't break any new ground it is, on the whole, very even handed.

How long will it be before Muslims are getting elected, and form a government, in a European country? How will that change our relationship with that country?

This will only increase as the homeschoolers start hitting voting age. I imagine homeschoolers are among the most politically active groups out there (a far cry from most young adults) and are only just starting to reach voting age.

"Who are the people having kids today? Immigrants, yes. That's one group. But among white, middle-class Americans, religious people are having children at a much higher rate." We got our minimum of 4. Please feel free to surpass us!
It's also true that serious, conservative Catholics are very prolific (or, "pro-life-ic!"). Good for everybody!

Are we headed for a theocracy? Is this a defeat for the Enlightenment that guided the nation's founding fathers?
OMG, I thought The Bible and Ten Commandments guided our founding fathers.....oh I forgot this is a myth too.

"Where do the Democrats go from here? " Probably off the cliff, the way they're going.

Well said.
If I may, let me enlarge the scope of this argument.
While the demographic effects of sectarian birth rates are undeniable, there are larger questions of viability when applied to species.
In brief:
All species are subject to cycles of sustained growth and sudden calamity. It is a rhythm as old as life itself, and is an integral part of the evolutionary process.
The classical symptoms of a species in crisis include:
Increased aggression
Sexual dysfunction
And disease.
