The Cop Who Arrested John Kerry
News Max ^ | Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004 | Leonard Saffir

For the most part, I support President Bush’s handling of the war on terror and his domestic policy, but that’s not the main reasons why I am voting for him.

My vote for President Bush is as much a vote in opposition to Sen. John Kerry. Specifically, it is the behavior of Kerry after he returned from four months in Vietnam that makes me angry.

Two days before President Bush’s visit, I shared a "Bloomin’ Onion" at the Outback restaurant in west Lantana, Fla. with a neighbor, a retired police chief.

Jim Corr, now a resident of Palm Beach County, once arrested and handcuffed Kerry, jailed him overnight, and then threatened to put him back in the lockup for a second night.

Fact is, you could be restrained with a plastic 6-pack Coors ring, stretched and twisted right.

"However, the fact that he held the American flag upside down is...."

no argument from me that holding an american flag upside down is grounds for being castrated. my point is that this makes us bush supporters feel good but does very little to convince the others to move their positions. holding a flag upside down is small potatoes compared to his ranting to congress that put thousand of war criminals at risk, throwing his medals away and lieing to get them in the first place. let's move off the issues that are not moving the undecided to our side. let's show how our solutions solve the undecided's problems: tax relief, health care, war on terror, etc.

Well, as they say, many know about his anti-war past. But, holding an American flag upside down would be a new twist showing he even went further than the war crimes charges and protesting the war itself.

John Kerry will be the First President ever arrested and charged wit a crime.

Um, President Bush pled guilty to misdemeanor operating under the influence.

Thanks - after googling "bivouac", it looks like Kipling and Longfellow both adored the term!

I never have been "into" military jargon/poetry, but I guess if I don't want to get ZOTTED, I'd better start.

For contrast purposes, here in Austin, last year, 1350 University of Texas students were charged with DWI. UT student body: ~60,000.

It's always been a lucrative bidness here in TX.

"He was an organizer of Vietnam Veterans Against the War. The group wanted to bivouac on the Battle Green of Lexington over the Memorial Day weekend, 1971."

Now, if only Hanoi Jane was arrested with Kerry and there was a picture of both of them in handcuffs, we would have a scoop.

That... would be an October surprise.

Indeed. GWB's arrest, however, was in Kennebunkport, Maine in 1976.

I'm not making an issue out of it. I was just pointing out that Kerry is not the first to have a record.

Having said that, I fully support our President.

This is not new... He had the upside down flag on his own book (calling it a book is a stretch though). Him being arrested is not new... Nothing new here... Move Along...

He had a flag upside down in the book, but he was not the one holding it.

Kerry kept his hands off this type of stuff normally, or so we thought...

This is new.

No harm, no foul. I just thought you could use some direction instead of just a simple 'not' or 'wrong' or 'duh'.

And besides, I happen to like the literature from that era. It grows on you. Life was tougher then. Hint for reading stuff from the Civil War... bring Kleenex(tm). Those guys (both sides) suffered.

Thanks - I am always looking for new stuff to read. Of course, the last piece of literature I read was written by John O'Neill...

I have a degree in English, but can say I've never seen the word "bivouac" before.

Maybe you should have foregone the draft deferment and received a real education in the military.

Many of us Freepers have both.
