BAGHDAD, Iraq --
Iraq's interim government complained Wednesday that the United Nations isn't doing enough to help prepare for January elections, saying the organization has sent fewer electoral workers than it did when tiny East Timor voted to secede from Indonesia.

I can't believe the interim gov't would actually want the UN's help. And since this is from AP, I think we should consider the source.

Iraq is better off without the aid of the UN.

I can't believe the interim gov't would actually want the UN's help. Actually, if there's one thing the UN does well (other than enable dictatorships and harangue Israel), it's assisting countries in getting voting efforts accomplished. Without the UN, the Afghani elections probably wouldn't have been able to happen in October.

If the UN's being helpful it's because they're being watched like a hawk and have no choice.

Isn't wonderful though to see someone else blamed, instead of the U.S.A. and the current administration?
Oh wait.....that will be next. The United States is not doing enough to pressure the U.N. to step up their election worker coverage in Iraq.. It will be all President Bush's fault.

If John Kerry had his way, the UN would be in charge of everything in Iraq.
Let's also not forget that one of Kerry's "points" in his "4 point plan" for Iraq would be to spped up preparation for elections in January.
If he's going to shamelessly steal President Bush's Iraq plan, he could have at least been smart enough to realize that the next presidential term doesn't begin until January 20th...

You don't suppose the UN wouldn't want the elections to go well? (a little sarcasm there)

Well said, the biggest impediment to progress in Iraq, other than the terrorists, is the UN and their attitude on'nation-building'. Iraqis are pointing out that the UN does little for them, yet demands that the US lacks moral authority unless these corrupt bureaucrats get to run the show.
fooey.
