Kerry and Bush Each Claim CIA Iraq Report Backs Them
The Los Angeles Times ^ | October 8, 2004 | Matea Gold and Maura Reynolds, Times Staff Writers

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Democratic Sen. John F. Kerry on Thursday said a new CIA report proved the U.S. was duped into war while President Bush argued that it justified sending in troops, starkly dividing the two candidates as they headed into the pair's second debate tonight.

______________________________snip____________________________________

"I believe we were right to take action, and America is safer today with Saddam Hussein in prison," Bush told reporters in Washington.

"He retained the knowledge, the materials, the means, and the intent to produce weapons of mass destruction. And he could have passed that knowledge on to our terrorist enemies…. In a world after Sept. the 11th, he was a threat we had to confront."

_______________snip________________________________________

In an attempt to argue that Kerry has changed his position on the use of military force on Iraq, he accused Kerry of once describing Hussein as a terrorist threat, but now calling Iraq a "diversion."

"Now my opponent tries to say I made up reasons to go to war," Bush told the crowd. "Just who's the one trying to mislead the American people?"

Kerry and Bush Each Claim CIA Iraq Report Backs Them

The main difference is that Bush isn't lying. Kerry, on the other hand...

It does back them both.

It backs the Senator on his narrow point that Hussein did not have huge stockpiles of WMDs.

It backs the President on the more important point that Hussein was a threat to the US and to the region.

Bush responses:
* Kerry and other senators voted to support the war based on the same intelligence that Bush had
* At the time of the war, Bush was being criticized for not "connecting the dots" on 9/11. So he connected the dots on Saddam. And now they're saying: "WRONG DOTS!!"
* Hindsight is always 20-20, and makes us all geniuses

Which do you think matters more to the public? I would say removing a threat (regardless of WMD's) is better. But then I am biased.

The man that wrote this report, ENDORSED Bush for President, and stated that he agreed that invading IRAQ was the right thing to do. This (and a few other golden grenades contained in the report) are what needs to be highlighted tonight!

Has Kerry "had the time" to be briefed on the report yet?

Every American should read Page 1 of the 19 page summary of the Duelfer Report at CIA.gov.

Page 1 outlines the findings of the report, 7 points including affirmations that Iraq wished to lift sanctions so it could restart its WMDs programs. Iraq exploited the Food for Oil Program, and used it to acquire weapons, disguised on paper as humanitarian goods. Bush's preemptive strike on Iraq was warranted, we shut down a future nuclear power and a terrorist regimes.

No Lie Too Big

The way this man conducts himself,
Sure seems to be a crime.
The latest lie that Kerry touts,
“Wrong War, Wrong Place, Wrong Time.”
He lied about Viet Nam too,
War crimes he claimed to see.
The crime and yes the criminal,
Are very clear to me.
John Kerry acted treasonous,
A traitor still today.
Have we become so tolerant,
That he can act this way?
About attacks on nine one one,
I’m sure he’d like to spout.
“Wrong Plane, Wrong Building, and Wrong Time”,
Wrong’s what he’s all about.

An improving economy in 1997—due in part to the OFF Program—and better management at MIC led to improvement in the chemical industry, especially in production output. MIC and companies within other Ministries continued to develop, expand, and renovate the chemical infrastructure, and by 2001, Iraq believed it had proven its ability to defy sanctions and revive itself, according to an Iraqi economics media report.
