MOVIE REVIEW: IN THE FACE OF EVIL

Doug from Upland, FreeRepublic.com

The Liberty Film Festival was a remarkable event held in West Hollywood, the backyard of the liberal elite. Experienced and new producers provided entertainment for an activist and very eager conservative audience. It is the audience that Hollywood has not only disregarded, but also insulted.

One of the standout movies of the weekend was IN THE FACE OF EVIL. For those on the left who have denigrated and mocked Ronald Reagan, this epic documentary is the answer that sets the record straight. Steve Bannon’s work is destined to be remembered as the definitive work on the man whose 45-year mission was to destroy the greatest evil of the 20th Century.

Reagan was not a Phi Beta Kappa. He was not among the Northeast liberal elite. He was not at the top of his class at Harvard Law. No, Reagan came from Middle America stock with Middle America values. He was a man with values, determination, and vision. And, along with Winston Churchill, he was one of the two great men of his century.

From sport caster to actor to governor to president, it was an unlikely journey. It was a unique journey, yet a journey so typical of what has made America great.

Bannon teaches a history lesson that is not taught in our elementary schools, our high schools, or our universities. It is one that those on the left want to ignore. They ignore it because they cannot admit that they were wrong and Reagan was right. They ignore it because their worldview would come crashing down. They ignore it because they just cannot stand the use of the word “evil.” Communism was evil. It was the greatest evil. Reagan recognized it and called it such. That drove those on the left into an hysterial frenzy.

IN THE FACE OF EVIL chronicles the birth of communism, its rule over people’s lives for three quarters of a century, and its demise. History will recognize a thousand years in the future that one man had the courage and will to face this evil, to lead the fight against this evil, and to defeat this evil. It was an evil that took away man's hopes, man's dreams, and tens of millions of their lives.

The Soviets thought Reagan was a simpleton. His opponents in this country thought he was a simpleton. This genuine good and decent man connected with the people. His vision of freedom was the vision that the natural right of man was to live free. He dedicated his life to that fight.

In every way, overt and covert, Reagan challenged the Soviets. He challenged them militarily around the world. He attacked their currency and took actions to prevent their acquisition of hard assets they needed to keep afloat their tremendous military machine. And he finally broke their backs with his brilliant program called the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), dubbed by his detractors as “Star Wars.”

The audience at the Liberty Film Fetival was riveted. They cheered, and at times they had tears in their eyes. They swelled with good old-fashioned American patriotism as they watched and heard six famous words that changed the world: Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.

Bannon did a magnificent job of getting the insiders to tell their stories, the stories we have never heard before. This simpleton, this actor, was really more brilliant than anyone ever imagined.

Let the detractors ignore history, and let them continue to make fun of this great man. It doesn’t matter. Hundreds of millions of people around the world who are now living in freedom love this man and his America that led the fight for their freedom and for the freedom of their children. They are forever grateful.

Steve Bannon, we are forever grateful.

For those who don't know, I will tell a secret. New FReeper nimbysrule, like many on this forum, used to be on the other side. Because she was on the other side and knows how they think, she will be a great asset here. We are battling a formidable enemy that doesn't play by our rules. Beware.

The Right Stuff
In Hollywood, a Film Festival That's Rated GOP

Billed as the first conservative film festival in Hollywood, the three-day affair showcased comic shorts, one about the "ultimate minority" in Tinseltown ("Greg Wolfe: Republican Jew"), an epic homage to Ronald Reagan and his battle against Soviet communism ("In the Face of Evil") and a snappy doc on tart-tongued commentator Ann Coulter ("Is It True What They Say About Ann?"), in which Coulter signs the T-shirt of a leftie college student with the words "Have fun in Guantanamo!"

Ron Smith, an activist with the conservative Web site Freerepublic.com, sat for the whole festival in the front row. "I'll give this to Michael Moore," he says. "He created a chain reaction. We have to thank him for that." He agreed that the anti-Moore, pro-Bush films were slow out of the gates, "but I'll tell you, this is just the beginning. We've got the Internet and talk radio and now we've got films. This is just a dry run. It'll be better next time around."

IN THE FACE OF EVIL

Reagan’s War in Word & Deed is a man and nation’s journey through the heart of darkness—and what that journey means for us today. This film is not a biography of Ronald Reagan, but a hard-hitting look at leadership and moral courage. Based on Peter Schweizer’s acclaimed bestseller, Reagan’s War, the new feature-length documentary film, In the Face of Evil chronicles the brutal conflict between totalitarianism and freedom as seen through Ronald Reagan’s forty-year confrontation with Communism.
