I hope I didn't sound churlish or critical -- that wasn't what I meant. I just meant to imply that documents from Fox News are probably reliable. That's especially true in the climate we're now in, but I think it was also true before. Sounds like we probably agree on that.
No, it does not. What it looks like is Mapes has a history of making the news stories fit her agenda. She also seems to have a fixation with prison stories in addition to her devotion to trying by any means necessary to make the absurd National Guard allegations, such as they were, stick. Note that she was the conduit to receive the Abu Ghraib photos.
That does not discount others at CBS, the DNC and Kerry Kamp from being held accountable.
She is not a scapegoat. She is an active participant in fraud and deceit.

There's been lots of clues that Mary's head is on the
block. On the other hand, I'm sure she has lots of
dirt on CBS. The negotiations must be fascinating.
Yeah, that seems to be the tone of the story in the last 24 hours. I'm sure CBS thinks this is all just a little misunderstanding, and they can make it all blow over with (at most) firing just one person. I'm not sure they realize how serious this really is. I doubt that one firing will solve the issue.

CBS may attempt to contain the damage to expendable units.

have to wonder if his endorsement of the AWOL story is
why Rather convinced himself that it had to be true,
and that evidence would turn up if they looked hard enough.
Jay Leno has stated that since CBS isn`t screening all documents etc. it makes one wonder if "Everybody really does love Raymond"....
Gosh, it seems like Moore's name actually did come up somewhere along the line during the last two weeks but my head is swimming with information and I can't think of what it was. Nothing stark or conclusive, just some connection was noted along the way.

Mapes was the one to whom Hackworth supposedly gave the prison abuse photgraphs, correct? The same photographs that appeared in the first screening of Farenheit 911 before it was shown at the Cannes Festival. Remember the question: What did Michael Moore know and when did he know it, on the original research thread? Michael Moore interviewed Nick Berg before Berg went to Iraq. Nick had an associate in Iraq, a freelance photographer named Asante (from memory) I know it's a long stretch, but the connection between Berg, Moore, Hackworth and Mapes...the prison photographs (staged) the obvious fraud that Farenheit 911 is and the forged memo's are all of one piece IMO.
Stoat, you have dynamite here. Do you realize that Langan (who Mapes is accused of HELPING) is linked with the crew who put on the Oklahoma City Bombing? Michael Brescia, Andreas Strassmeir, McVeigh, Elohim City, and the Kehoe brothers.

The Kehoe brothers were involved in an Ohio shoot out with the police, but a friend of theirs was involved in a Washington police stop with a rifle he said he got from one of the Kehoes and they lived in Washington state (Spokane area) for quite a while.
The rifle came from a gun dealer in Arkansas (Mueller) who was robbed and murdered along with his wife and young daughter (8 or 9 years old). Money from that robbery was used in preparation for the OKC bombing.
And you (via FNC) have Mapes linked to Langan. At the very least she is on record as having helped a white supremacist bank robber vs. the government.
Sorry for such a raw information dump, but this has left me stunned at the connections, both literal and documented and those whose possibilities are terrifying and mind blowing. This is NO six degrees of seperation thing IMO.
Peter Langan hates the United States government. Peter Langan is in prison and Peter Langan wants to talk. Langan, is the son of a CIA intelligence officer and he was raised throughout his early years in Viet Nam. After getting into some trouble in Georgia for the robbery of a Pizza Hut, Langan agreed to help the Secret Service find a friend of his - Richard Guthrie. But Langan and Guthrie disappeared or as Langan said, "went to ether." They holed up in a "safe house" in Pittsburgh, Kansas with a few other misfits, namely, Scott Stedeford, Michael Brescia, Kevin McCarthy, and Mark Thomas. Throughout their reign, they could be found in many different safe-houses throughout the Midwest, but their base of operations was Elohim City. Langan adopted the code name "Commander Pedro" for the operations of the Aryan Republican Army. While Andreas Strassmeir has never been identified as an ARA member, the right-wing, anti-semetic news zine, Vanguard News Network, places him squarely in the middle of group. Peter was bodacious and somewhat of an embarrassment to the "cause." Claiming to be a "preoperative transexual," Langan wears his hair and his nails extremely long. One can't help but wonder how that plays out with the White Power crowd. ...
Among the items found by law enforcement was a video tape made by the Aryan Republican Army in January, 1995. This tape was used as a recruitment tool and to incite violence against the federal government. It serves as a sobering reminder as to what these people were all about. Brandishing wads of cash as well as guns, machetes and grenades masked "Commander Pedro" (Langan) tells the viewing audience of a coming Aryan Revolution. One masked figure in the video states the "Army's" objectives as ""Eliminate the government, from the federal government to the county seats. Exterminate Hymie. Repatriate all non-whites to their homes. Return the country to the Bible." And the stated principals are, "All racial minorities are subhuman, Jews are ``Satan's spawn,'' whites of northern European descent are ``chosen people,'' and that a U.N.-led ``New World Order'' threatens freedom in the United States.
Other members of the Aryan Republican Army included Richard Lee Guthrie, a court-martialed Navy Seal. A childhood friend of Peter Langan, Guthrie came under federal law enforcement scrutiny after making a threat toward President George Bush in 1991. Guthrie was very forthcoming with information upon his arrest. He reportedly was writing a book which would chronicle the events of the ARA. He, however, is reported to have killed himself in his cell. According to Robert Ruth, a staff writer for the Columbus Dispatch, "Guthrie was found dead in his cell with a sheet around his neck, an apparent suicide. Guthrie's body was found shortly after he pleaded guilty to 19 robberies and agreed to testify against Peter "Commander Pedro" Langan and other alleged members of the gang." He had already provided information that resulted in the arrests of McCarthy and Stedeford. Additionally, as part of the plea bargain reached with the FBI, Guthrie asserted that he could provide them with information on other "cells" and groups "whose goal was the overthrow of the government or engaging in acts of domestic terrorism." At one point, he alluded to a fellow ARA member named "Tim." His body was found 9 days after entering the plea bargain agreement and only hours after telling a reporter for the Los Angeles Times that he intended to write a "tell-all" book "That would go a lot further into what we were really doing."
On May 10, 2001, the Federal Bureau of Investigation released a report stating that Timothy McVeigh actually was part of the Aryan Republican Army and had participated in the bank robberies to accumulate funds for his act of terrorism. This came six years after they were provided with information by a federal informant who had placed McVeigh squarely with members of the Army. The FBI had also been informed by witnesses who saw McVeigh with some of the members in the area of Lake Geary Park when the bomb was being built. Additionally, Jennifer McVeigh, Timothy's sister, had testified that she had "laundered" money for Tim that came from a bank robbery. As we further study the ARA, we can't help but further the question, "Why were these people never questioned or arrested?"

The original research thread http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1143602/posts shows that Farenheit 911 was shown as a charity preview in Bolder Colorado before screening in Cannes. Moore had the prison 'abuse' photo's before anyone else - so who did he give them to? Who else but Mary Mapes? (Just guessing.)

What he said on the air yesterday was (approximately) that while Mapes was working here in the Seattle area around, I believe he said 1987 or so, there was an accidental police shooting where the cops shot a guy who was holding a TV remote during a drug bust, thinking it was a gun (it was dark). There was a HUGE uproar afterwards because the guy was black, the cops were white, yadda yadda yadda.
Mapes promoted the words of a drunk, who had literally stubled onto the scene long after the event and was not a witness as being eyewitness testimony. Naturally, the drunk, who was black, said that the guy who was shot had nothing in his hands and had surrendered, and the evil white racist cops had just gunned him down for the heck of it etc. etc.
Days later, other witnesses emerged who corroborrated the police version of events, and eventually Mapes' "witness" was revealed as being a drunk who was not even a witness.
Mapes has a long history of anti-police, Leftist sentiment and Carlson was making the point that the Memogate events are similar in that lousy, fake "evidence" is being rushed to air to suit an agenda once again.
