Statement from RNC Communications Director Jim Dyke

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: Christine Iverson

Washington, DC-RNC Communications Director Jim Dyke made the following statement today

"Bill Burkett, Democrat activist and Kerry campaign supporter, passes information to the DNC; Kerry campaign surrogate Max Cleland discusses "valuable" information with Bill Burkett; Bill Burkett talks to "senior" Kerry campaign officials; an apparently unsuspecting news organization uses faked forged memos and an interview with Ben Barnes at the same time the Democratic National Committee launched Operation Fortunate Son; and Kerry campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill was among the first to call Ben Barnes and congratulate him after his interview. The trail of connections is becoming increasingly clear."

Isn't Travis County, Tx. connected with Rather's daughter and Ben Barnes? I just went back to see what I could locate on the female mole who was indicuted back in 2001 for sending video tapes of Dubya to a Gore campaign aide. This is what I found:

"Juanita Yvette Lozano also has connections to the Democratic Party. Before working at Maverick Media, she was a precinct chairwoman for the Travis County Democratic Party and formerly worked for both Richards and Rep. Glen Maxey, D-Austin. More than likely she's been associated with Robin Rather and Ben Barnes."

Maybe Lozano is into typing memos these days.

Here's an article from The Daily Texan that covers her sentencing:

Tuesday, September 1, 2001 Ex-Bush campaign worker receives year in prison

By Amy Westerman
Daily Texan Staff

A former George W. Bush campaign worker from Austin will serve a year in prison and pay a $3,000 fine for mailing a videotape of Bush practicing for the presidential debates to a rival candidate.

Juanita Yvette Lozano, 31, a former low-level aide to Bush's media adviser, Mark McKinnon, was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty in June to charges of perjury and mail fraud.

Lozano had previously admitted in court to mailing the videotape to Al Gore's campaign in September 2000.

In addition to the prison term and fine, U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks also gave Lozano a three-year probation period the maximum penalty under law. The probationary phase will begin after Lozano's one-year prison term.

Sparks admonished Lozano, saying that she knew at the time her acts would illegally aid the Gore campaign.

"Our whole system of government depends on free elections," Sparks said. "Our whole system of justice depends on people telling the truth."

Lozano mailed a 120-page binder of Bush campaign material and a videotape of Bush preparing for the debate to a Gore campaign adviser about three weeks before the debate. The adviser then turned the unsolicited materials over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

When investigators found a videotape of Lozano mailing a package at an Austin post office shortly before the tape was received, she falsely claimed she had been returning a pair of pants to The Gap for McKinnon.

Lozano was indicted in February under charges of mail fraud, perjury and making false statements to the FBI. In June, facing a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $750,000 fine, Lozano pleaded guilty to perjury and mail fraud. As part of a plea bargain, the charges of lying to the FBI were dropped.

As a convicted felon, Lozano won't be allowed to vote while in jail or during her probation, although she can register to vote after her probation period ends.

"Every election will be a painful reminder as I will only be an observer in the process," Lozano said in a statement before the court.

Raymond Hulser, assistant U.S. attorney for the Justice Department's Office of Public Integrity, said he found Lozano's sentence appropriate and was satisfied with the outcome.

"I think the judge sends a message that stealing, lying and cheating have no place in presidential elections," Hulser said. "In addition, those who continue to lie will be punished."

Lozano has 30 days to report to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Until then she is out on bond. Because there is no parole within the federal system, Lozano will have to serve the entire year.

When Hitlery talked about her October Surprise, she never mentioned that her surprise was for JFK.

"How long ago was it that Max Cleland was in Texas to deliver a letter to President Bush?I wonder if that was the only thing he was doing in Texas."

He and Rassman were there August 25th.

Which brings to mind the rhyme about Humpty Dumpty. Humpty sat on a wall, had a GREAT fall, and all the socialist, liberal, anti-Americans couldn't put him together again. Not that they won't try.

Well. There we go. 'bout time.

NO...NO...NO. Don't hurry this. Savor this like a great cigar. Take time to enjoy it. Every day longer this takes to resolve is another day closer to the election. I would love to see CBS with a mea culpa(sp?) about the last week of October. Until then, let them keep this as the front page scandal. That would suck all of the rest of the oxygen out of the Kerry campaign. They can cry and moan all they want but nobody will be listening.

"Cleland blows himself up once again."

Cleland must be the dumbest politician of all times.
First he plays with a grenade and then he plays with a loose cannon.

Expected outcome both times.

Rather went to check out old folks home and order a nice white coat in case he gets out.

They're coming to take me away, HA HA
They're coming to take me away, HO HO HEE HEE HA HA
To the funny farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see
Those nice, young men
In their clean, white coats
And they're coming to take me away, Ha-haaa!

Well, implicating the Kerry campaign in furthering this journalism fraud would suck all the air of them too ;-)

The next question is who will the DNC and Rather decide should take the fall?
With so many people in the know surrounding this story, the wheels have to be in motion for a fall guy/girl.

Exactly. This is to be enjoyed. I like the part where the RNC calls CBS an "unsuspecting news organization." The RNC must have been laughing themselves silly when they wrote that. How dare the Kerry campaign give forged documents to an "unsuspecting news organization"?

How about Edwards? They can dump him and add Hillary to the ticket....

This kind of wild move is all they've got. They are headed for a 15-18 point loss.

Hillary suffering a loss this time wouldn't hurt her chances in 2008 either...

The RNC does not want Rather to take the fall. They're going to tie it to Kerry and are currently giving CBS the chance to rat out Kerry and the DNC. Notice how they're not attacking Rather and CBS?

I really hope Cleland is in no way connected to this fraud. The use of Cleland by the Kerry campaign has been a terrible sight to behold. Watching a triple amputee wheel himself down a dirt road in Texas with dozens of reporters following was tough to watch. The photo op was pretty bad. No reporter or staffer was helping Cleland move his chair forward. We noted on C Span that Cleland always had a staffer assisting him coming and going from the senate chambers. It made many of us ill to watch the Democrats use Cleland in such a way.
