`This is what I saw that day'
Chicago Tribune ^ | 8/22/04 | William B. Rood

Posted on 08/22/2004 5:08:20 AM PDT by Non-Sequitur

There were three swift boats on the river that day in Vietnam more than 35 years ago--three officers and 15 crew members. Only two of those officers remain to talk about what happened on February 28, 1969. One is John Kerry, the Democratic presidential candidate who won a Silver Star for what happened on that date. I am the other.

I agree. It's purely political. Not that the MSM would take sides, mind you.

" . . . and in recent days Kerry has called me and others who were with him in those days, asking that we go public with our accounts."

His own words.

from washington post:

"In some ways, it was a day like any other. The previous day, Kerry had taken part in a Swift boat expedition that had come under fire, and several windows of Kerry's boat were blown out. A friend, Lt. j.g. William B. Rood, almost lost an eye in the ambush. [Now an editor with the Chicago Tribune, Rood yesterday broke three decades of public silence to support Kerry's version of how he won the Silver Star on Feb. 28. Rood has no firsthand knowledge of the Bronze Star incident.] "

This guy Rood is anti-Bush from the start. I found this from a Google search. Is this the same William J. Rood?:

Press Corps soooo disgusting

by Bill Rood Apr 14, 2004 at 02:28 AM

What disgusted me the most about the press conference tonight was the questions from the press corps. I mean, I knew pretty much what Bush would say, all the lies about how most Iraqis want us there and it's just a small number of terrorists and on and on. I didn't expect, but I hoped the press would ask him a few tough questions like:

1) Mr. President, what is your response to al-Sistani's threat to call for resistance if U.S. troops attack Najaf or Karbala? 2) Mr. President, al Hawza was closed because it inaccurately reported an explosion as being caused by a missile rather than a car bomb. Do you favor closing American newspapers that report inaccuracies? 3) Mr. President, there are reports that the British high command is upset with American tactics and rules of engagement. One high ranking British officer has said that the U.S. military views the Iraqis as "untermenschen". What is your response? 4) Mr. President, if criminals or terrorists were to murder and defile four security guards in Toledo, OH, would you order the electricity and water cut off in Toledo, surround it with Marines and start firing missiles at churches in Toledo?

But noooo, they ask a bunch of softball questions that do very little to inform the American people of what is really happening in Iraq. The last question was from the NPR correspondent. It was the most disgusting of all -- Mr. President, do you think your communication style leaves something to be desired? Barfff!

Well that's interesting as hell. Where does it say he wasn't there? One would *assume* he wasn't due to the injury but....

And, unfortunately, Mr Rood is conveniently unavailable for further interviews. (any bets he will speak-up as his story comes under fire?)

Rood isn't writing about the bronze star incident he's writing about the silver star incident.

Some people need to do a little research, if we as people concerned about getting the truth out against the lies of the media and the sKerry campaign. Then we need to know the truth or at least a proper understanding of the cronological order of these incidents.

No, not them. They stand for objectivity and truth. They told us that during the go-go '80s where greed was everywhere. They told us that while an embattled President Clinton was defending Constitution against an out of control Republican special prosecutor who was obsessed with sex. They told us they stand for objectivity and truth when Trent Lott exposed the racist Republican mindset in saying Strom Thurmond would have made a great President, and again they told us they stand for objectivity and truth when Chris Dodd celebrated that great statesman, the conscience of the Senate, Robert Byrd, by saying he'd be right at the founding of the country, right during the Civil War. And speaking of Senator Byrd, they told us that when he was just speaking his mind about white niggers. Yes, the great media, they stand for objectivity and truth.

When should he have gotten in?

Mr. Rood is an editor for a major metropolitan newspaper. His business is the news. The SBVT firestorm has been building all summer and exploded weeks ago. He has first-hand information about that story. His newspaper could have had this story weeks ago.

Never mind that it took a phone call from Kerry for Rood to speak out. One would think with all the newspapers in this country that some investigative reporter, like maybe one from the Chicago Tribune, would have found out that Rood served with Kerry and interviewed him weeks ago. After all, Rood is mentioned in Brinkley's book about Kerry, Tour of Duty, so there is no excuse that he was a complete unknown.

Bill Rood called Kerry "Ichabod," as in Crane

The circumstances of his coming forward at this time and under these circumstances seem odd to me. I guess he, too, is now "reporting for duty."

"I wonder if Rood responded to the carrot or the stick?"

I was about to ask, "How much did Kerry pay him for his support."

I should probably consider the possibility of threats against Rood's family, something like, "...and your little dog too!"

The best way I can think of to get all this information in one condensed source is to purchase "Unfit for Command".

John O'Neil lays it out in perfect sequence with documentation to boot, that's why Kerry is trying his best to smear these veterans and muddy the water, because anyone who reads this book will demand that Kerry release his entire service record.

Rood isn't writing about the bronze star incident; however, this excerpt does reveal one of the flaws in Kerry's story of the Mar 13th (bronze star incident).

The above combat happened on Mar 12th, the day before the infamous day that Kerry ran the gunfire gaunlet to pull Rassman from the water. As proof of the gunfire on the 13th he has posted a report of the boat damage. The problem is the damage on the report happened on the 12th according to Kerry's own book "Tour of Duty" and many other interviews.

So the adoring press points to the damage report as proof the Swiftvets are lying and ignore the FACT that Kerry's own book states that damage happened on Mar 12th and not on Mar 13th.

Any guesses as to what Kerry said to him?

The evil dums are trying to play ketchup. Never works. That has always been my problem with Repub or conser, people, they let accusations sit for weeks before answering. Bush thankfully, has learned the lesson of bombarding stories.

The fact remains 254 Swift Boat Vets can't ALL be lying. Yet we know for a FACT that Kerry is a lying weazel oportunistic gigilo.
