Don't forget the "advanced civilization" correlation.

We Irish are clearly superior to everyone else. So much so, that God invented alcohol to keep us from taking over the world.

Atlantis isn't what it used to be. Some areas have become overrun with soiled-trouser-wearing gays and various other vulgarian groups. I prefer Savannah these days. (belch)

I once saw a documentary about a guy that had moved to California about 75 years ago and proceeded to build a structure for the love of his life (she never showed.) He was using a configuration of magnets in the shape of a pyramid that was held up by a makeshift tripod. He used this to somehow move stones that weighed several tons by himself. He worked in secret and kept the details to himself. He claimed to have uncovered the secrets of the pyramid builders. I think that the structure still stands. Damn. I wish I could remember the details.

Ha! Sounds feasible, and what happened to all those Come to Ireland TV ads? Haven't seen any in months. Don't tell me all they wanted was Clinton.

i studied :) myself? im Norse-Scotch by blood. my family conquered the clets and then adapted in.

and yes, i know "Scoti" means "Irish Dancer" again, its only the Celts.

"Sorry. I thought "sober Irishman" was an oxymoron."

And "drunk Irishman" is a tautology (as is "fighting Irish").

Considering Plato didn't even read the original text first hand, but from a friend of a friend's father so to speak from Egypt, it is likely there is a fair embelishment to the story.

By far the most likely root for the basic legend is the island of Santorini which which at the time was the main trading post for the Minoan civilisation. This island was quite literally blown asunder by what was probaly the largest volcanic eruption in the history of civilised man..Thera.

Certainly Crete would have been in the path of the tsunami, which may or may not have completly knocked out the already waning Minoan civilisation, but it certainly didn't help. Likewise the eruption would also be a plausable explanation for some of the plagues of Egypt(great darkness, Plume of smoke and fire, hail (pummice stones?)etc..)

Certianly one can hardly imagine such an obviously cataclysmic event going unrecorded in some for or other by what were after all literate people.

Yeah I saw that documentary on Discovery or something years ago (I thought it was in Florida, but it doesn't really matter). It was interesting because this guy definitely did it all himself without heavy machinery.

Erlingsson believes the idea that Atlantis sank came from the fate of Dogger Bank

from whence sprang Tommy Lasorda

the tribe called the scoti (i think) came from Ireland. i realize that not all actual scots came from ireland--i have some norse-scottish (viking) ancestors myself (Macleods). but the original "scots" did come from ireland.
