Actually, there are already 2 vowels in that word - y. Remember, a-e-i-o-u and SOMETIMES y?

The country is pronounced Cur-jeez. The daughter of a friend of mine lived there with the Peace Corps for 2 years. Now she lives in NYC. I think it probably takes a stint in Kyrgyz to prepare a mid-western girl for life in NYC! LOL

It's a very interesting country. My friend's daughter speaks the language -- not a skill you find in your ordinary Berlitz school.

BTW, my friend visited her daughter in Kyrgyz and told all about a banquet that the townspeople gave in their honor. They were all loaded into an old car with very bad tires and taken far out into the countryside. Upon arrival, the men built a fire. The they opened the trunk of the car and pulled out a live goat that had been tied inside the whole trip, unbeknownst to my friend. They slaughtered it with a long knife and proceeded to roast it and prepare a feast.

Some of the men of the village put on a show on horseback where they galloped back and forth (sort of like polo) but they used an animal's head instead of a puck -- or whatever they call it in polo. Ewwweeew! They are excellent horsement. They are probably descended from Attila! Or one of the Khans. Or all of the above.
