Well obviously you don't either. How is dropping Cheney cause Bush to lose a big part of his base? I don't see it. On the other hand, lots of independents and Dems who hate Cheney might change their mind. Plus Dems lose their talking points about Halliburton.
I am willing to bet you that any poll done with McCain or Powell will have Bush up by a big margin.
To: Kaslin
A big story will come out with respect to the ties between Haliburton and Cheney tonight. The WH chief council has verified that serious allegations have merit. Cheney will resign within the week and GWB will have to do some explaining as well as pick a new VP. I think this is called buddy f'ing.

Sabato is just another naysayer. I hope the president keeps Cheney on the team, that is, if Cheney wants to stay. This all sounds like the typical whining of a libertarian or undecided that doesn't like the gruff and grumbly Dick Cheney.
The wussy, pantywaist effeminates that populate the ranks of American political pundits, even many of the supposed conservative ones, really make me sick.

How is dropping Cheney cause Bush to lose a big part of his base?Replacing Cheney with a moderate will be just one more rejection of the conservatives (like illegal immigration, McCain-Feingold, etc.) in favor of the moderates. There is only so far the base will go, and Bush is fast approaching that point. He has his father's example to show what happens when the base feels betrayed, and replacing the most visible conservative in his administration would be well beyond that.
Besides, what polls are you talking about? Polls of all adults (worthless)? Polls of likely voters (also worthless, as getting Democrat approval in a poll still won't translate into votes on election day)? Or polls of sure Republican voters (where I guarantee his numbers will go down significantly), which is where he will win or lose?

Cheney is the candidate.
Period.
BTW, Newsweek polls are not something to live by...unless you enjoy being manipulated by the MSM.
