Happens all the time. For example, there's Great Brittain, and then there's England. Then there's the United Kingdom. Depends on what you are talking about, who your audience might be, and what you think of the place.
Next time you see Plato ask him about it!
...A save for later. Thanks for the post, good on yer...
Have you been to Roswell? I have. Their evidence is very convincing! Of course, after a couple of "alien burgers" at one of the local eateries, my BS detectors were jammed.
On an unrelated note, if that satellite is that good, why can't it pinpoint the section of the Meadowlands where Jimmy Hoffa is buried?
...Maybe not...
Right there where the satellite image is showing an area that correlates well with Plato's description of Atlantis, there are previous archaeological sites. The writer notes that "...In the copper mines in Rio Tinto are ruins that date back to 8,000-10,000 years...", and that particular date is certainly within the range of Plato's 10,000 years, give or take a couple.
Although modern folks call this place "Tartessus", the Bible apparantly refers to it as "Tarshish". Undoubtedly there are Egyptian sources for the place.
reserving credence for the time being.
I'm looking forward to Stargate Atlantis. Television is a wasteland for decent sci-fi right now. Can't get into Enterprise. Andromeda used to be quite good the first two seasons but it's gone to total and complete crap. Mutant X was -always- lame. B5 is long gone, as are any potential spinoffs. Farscape is long gone. SG is the only current-run sci-fi I've watched in ages.
Most of my life I've always been able to be an addict to two or three different current sci-fi shows at once, but now I'm reduced to -one-. I believe that if we are ever brought to zero, geeks will subsist on old DVD's for about a year before they finally rise up and conquer the Earth for lack of anything better to do.
So if SG is the only decent sci-fi we can get, might as well have two! Any idea how long they're expected to run concurrently?

Last I heard, it was either one or two years.
Wow. Two more seasons would be pretty huge. I believe that would make it the longest running sci-fi series ever, at 9 seasons. I know all the Treks had 7 seasons each, and I can't think of any that beat them out.
Thanks for the reply.
FYI, by the way, dunno if you liked Farscape, but they -are- going to do a 4 hour Farscape miniseries to wrap up the plot after it got prematurely cancelled with no warning to the writers. It's been in production for a few months now, I believe. Yay.

Well of COURSE its Atlantis. You can clearly see discarded Jaffa staff weapons in the picture. And if you look even more closely, there's evidence of mummified Zat Nicotels right next to that tree. And there - an MRE wrapper discarded by Col. O'Neill.
Nonsense. The Phillistines are an extinct ancient people that haven't existed for 2500+ years. Today's Palestinians are the descendants of conquering Arab tribes, mixed with the decendants of converted Samartians, Crusading Christians, Turks, and perhaps some Phillistines.
Don't give up on B5 yet. JMS has been posting that something big will happen soon, although it will probably be a feature film rather than a TV spinoff.
Doctor Who at 26 seasons.

Farscape: Peacekeeper War -- last I heard, they were going to run it in early-mid December.
Have you heard any more on what it is beyond the acronym B5:TMoS?
Very thin.
I used to think it was Thera too. I think Thera was too recent. Thera blew 1n 1628BC and (in my opinion) was the fireworks for the Exodus, which I also think was in 1628BC. If it was Thera we would have more signs and know more about it. Atlantis is very, very ancient and is probably related to the Ice Age (ending) floods, volcanos, tsaunamis and earthquakes...a long, long time ago.
Dr Robert Schoch in his book, Voyages Of The Pyramid Builders, speculates that Atlantis was in Sundaland and in fact the first Sumerians were refugees from the sinking of Sunderland.
Dr Steven Oppenheimer in his book, Eden In The East, lends some credence to the Sundaland possibility by comparing linguistics, DNA and numerous myths.
I'm presently leaning toward this Sundaland idea as the location for Atlantis.
Interesting link, thanks.
"Tartessus is today one of the unsolved mysteries of our past; the city has not been discovered yet, but traces of buildings and other objects have been found near Huelva, at the mouth of the Odiel and Rio Tinto rivers (remember the ancient Rio Tinto mines), at the mouth of Guadalquivir, and other places, like Sevilla. This is not obviously a proof that Tartessus did really exist, but it demonstrates the existence of an ancient West Mediterranean culture, which could give us the answers to many questions about our past."
