On Al Hurra, Bush does not apologize, describes allegiations as abhorrent, pledges full investigation and transparency.
He draws distinctions between the way these allegations of abuse are being handled by the United States and the way Saddam Hussein handed allegiations of abuse, ABC News Terry Moran reports.
Bush: 'In a democracy, everyting is not perfect..mistakes are made. But in a democracy, these mistakes will be investigated and people will be brought to justice.
That stands in stark contrast to life under Saddam Hussein.
His trained tourturers were never brought to justice under his regieme.'
More Bush: 'Of course, I've got confidence in Secretary Rumsfeld.'
'A dicator would not allow himself to be asked about this.'

Hopefully the wires will be catching up with this soon..

I watched the Al Arabiya broadcast on CNN and it was excellent. Very well done on their side and W's.

Headlines were about the President 'apologizing'. I don't see it here.
To: threat matrix
It also sounds like he is calling to mind something the Arab world would rather forget - genuine atrocities committed by Muslim dictators.

Agreed.

Bush didn't apologize?
Good. It would be a sickening moral display if he did. An apology to Islamic fascists who routinely rape, maim and kill? We'll leave that form of slavish debasement to liberals.

And perhaps to a handful of mewling moralists who visit Free Republic. ;)

Good job by President Bush!!

Amen, brother..

Amen.

More Bush: 'Of course, I've got confidence in Secretary Rumsfeld.' Loyalty to underperforming apointees is a hallmark of the Bush family. They are so damned determined to appear "loyal" that they let themselves be dragged down by the incompetence of others. Rummy needs to be fired. He tanked the troop numbers, tanked the post-war management, and has now let this prison thing get out of control.

I saw it on FNC and he did very well
But I'm sure Hellary will get Teddy Kennedy or Bobby Bryd to call for the President to be impeached

Headlines were about the President 'apologizing'. I don't see it here. It's a media strawman. The President is the conquering general and governor of Iraq. His appearance in Arab media is as much for his own army as for the occupied population. Iraqis and neighboring countries should see him as benevolent but strong, there for as long as necessary but fair. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. You can bet that not everybody approved of Saladin even while he was the best the region could produce.

ABC, what a BS organization check out the bias in the opening:
Q Mr. President, thank you for agreeing to do this interview with us.
Evidence of torture of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. personnel has left many Iraqis and people in the Middle East and the Arab world with the impression that the United States is no better than Saddam Hussein's regime --
PRESIDENT BUSH: Hm.
Q -- especially when those alleged torture took place in the Abu Ghraib prison --
PRESIDENT BUSH: Mm-hm.
Q -- a symbol of torture of Iraqis under Saddam.
PRESIDENT BUSH: Yeah.
Q What can the U.S. do, I mean what can we do to get out of this?
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::End of excerpt::::::::::::::::::::
Notice how they left in the "Hmmm" and "Yeah". If this was Clinton or Kerry speaking they would have had the courtesy to edit such things out. Instead they leave it in to make him look bad. And note the question. I stopped reading it at the point. I will find it elsewhere.

But the atrocities committed by muslims against muslims are different, you know. All in the family. Plus they were 'honorable' atrocities such as chopping and stoning and shredding. Those victims died like men while receiving Islamic 'justice'. When it's kufr embarrassing muslims and, God forbid, involving kufr women with authority over muslim men, now them's fightin' words.

I intend to read it, just not at ABC. It will be available from other sources. I just get sick of their agenda and ABC seems to be the worst of a bad lot.
