According to reports, W.Va. congresscritter, Alan B. Mollohan, is pulling the strings to bring Pepe le Pew to the steel valley. You all remember the steelworkers - they demanded tariffs and Bush delivered, but when he lifted them, they all reverted to their "vote Democrat at all costs" mentality, even though John Effin' has vowed he
won't impose tariffs if elected,

Kerry May Visit The Ohio Valley
Brooke County Democratic Party Chair John Martino Says Kerry Needs To See The State Of The Ohio Valley
POSTED: 5:35 p.m. EDT April 6, 2004
FOLLANSBEE, WV -- Brooke County Democratic Party Chair John Martino says the group is close to sealing a deal with Senator John Kerry to visit Brooke County. Martino says Kerry is trying to arrange his schedule to make it to Follansbee in April. Kerry's campaign staff is trying to schedule an April 23rd visit to a Meet-the-Candidates night at St. Francis Center in Follansbee. The center can hold 300 to 400 people. Martino says he's been working with U.S. Senator Alan Mollohan of West Virginia to lobby the Kerry presidential campaign to schedule a visit here. Marino says he wants Kerry to see the state of the Ohio Valley.
The economy and steel are certain to be a topic of conversation if Kerry visits the northern panhandle. Yesterday, Kerry told the Associated Press the White House shouldn't have scrapped steel tariffs on foreign imports. He says withdrawing that program half-way through is "wreaking havok in the market."
However, Kerry says he won't put them back in place if he's elected. A spokesman for President Bush's re-election campaign says Kerry's comments highlight his ever changing position on steel.
Martino says he'll tell NEWS 9 as soon as he finds out if Kerry is coming. Either way, Martino says the event will go on as scheduled and will feature local and state democratic candidates.

Keep us informed. I may be able to go. I really don't watch local news at all, neither 5 or 9, although I do read the News Register. If I hear anything, I'll post it.

Looks like a Kerry visit, if it happens, will be tied to this event listed on the
WV Democrat web site:
April 23 :The Brook County Executive Committee will sponsor a dinner 5:30 p.m. at the St. Francis Church in Follansbee. Congressman Alan Mollohan will be guest speaker. For more information please contact John Martino at 527-0306. Tickets are $20 each.
I guess we should be thrilled that Mollohan is making his annual visit to his "home state."

Let's meet for this to plan our strategy.

We're going to drive up to the St. Francis center soon to check out the "lay of the land." It will be interesting to see whether the secret service will prevent protesters from setting up anywhere near the church.

Hope you can make it!

I'm maybe 20 to 40 minutes away, and will do my best. Be nice to actually meet a few Freepers.

I was thinking maybe on Rt22 by the exit of Rt2, where his car will have to pass coming from the airport. It will be a great place to hold up some signs, alot of people would see them.

Mr. M suggested, for the sake of our safety, rather than near the 22/2 junction, we might situate ourselves near the McDonald's in Follansbee (maybe at the middle school or across the street by the ball field?), as Kerry would have to drive by that point. Either that or at the intersection of Alt. 27 and Rt. 2, where I believe his motorcade would turn to get to St. Francis. My understanding is that there's only one route to and from St. Francis.

Is that right near Advanced Financial? That's where we have our mortgage. MMMmmmmm, close to Curley's Pizza, too!

Well, this is interesting. Today's Intelligencer has a brief indicating that neither the Kerry campaign nor the W.Va. Democrat Exec. Cmte. knows anything about a visit to Follansbee, although it was the Brooke Co. Democrat chair who announced Kerry's appearance at the 4/23 dinner.
I had heard a few weeks ago from an informed source that Mollohan indeed was working with the Kerry campaign to bring him to the Upper Ohio Valley, so I still think that's a possibility.
Having created one sign already, I'll hang on to it. Kerry will visit this region sometime, I'm certain. We'll just have to keep an eye on things to find out when and where!

They must be watching FR, and trying to avoid us ;-)
We never get any fun up here.

I've heard from a Dem insider that Kerry will not be coming to the Follansbee event, after all. Boy, does John Martino look like a fool! Anyway, I'll keep an eye on Effin's plans for future reference.

Kerry's "Slip-Sliding Away" poll numbers inspire new words for an old song:
Flip flopping a-way,
Flip flopping a-way
You know the nearer your desperation,
The more you flip flopping a-way
Whoah and I know a man, he came from Beantown
He wore his passion for his women like a horny clown
He said Teresa, I live in fear
My love for money's so overpowering,
I'm afraid that I'll have you disappear
Flip flopping a-way,
Flip flopping a-way
You know the nearer your desperation,
The more you flip flopping a-way
I know a woman, who became his wife
These are the very words she uses to describe her life
She said a good day he drives me insane
She said a bad day is when I lie in the bed
And I think of a husband that might have been
Flip flopping a-way,
Flip flopping a-way
You know the nearer your desperation,
The more you flip flopping a-way
And I know a father who had a son
He longed to tell him all the reasons for the crimes he'd done
He came a long way just to explain
He slapped his boy as he lay sleeping
Then he turned around and he headed home again
Flip flopping a-way,
Flip flopping a-way
You know the nearer your desperation,
The more you flip flopping a-way
Whoah God only knows, God makes his plan
The information's unavailable to this evil man
He's shirking his job, scamming his pay
Believes he's taking the high way,
When in fact he's flip flopping a-way
Flip flopping a-way,
Flip flopping a-way
You know the nearer your desperation,
The more you flip flopping a-way
Flip flopping a-way,
Flip flopping a-way
You know the nearer your desperation,
The more you flip flopping a-way

Very good! This morning, radio host Jim Quinn tried out a new Kerry theme song: the theme from the mid-1960s TV show, "Flipper" (They call him Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightning ...).
