Just heard on Early Today:

"The Ballad of the Green Berets."
http://www.sfachapter23.com/Barry_Sadler_Ballad_of_the_Green_Berets.mp3

Fighting soldiers from the sky,
Fearless men who jump and die,
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Beret.

Silver wings upon their chests,
These are men, America's best,
One hundred men we'll test today,
But only three win the Green Beret.

Trained to live off nature's land,
Trained in combat, hand to hand,
Men who fight by night and day,
Courage take from the Green Beret.

Silver wings upon their chests,
These are men, America's best,
Men who mean just what they say,
The brave men of the Green Beret.

Back at home a young wife waits,
Her Green Beret has met his fate,
He has died for those oppressed,
Leaving her this last request:

Put silver wings on my son's chest,
Make him one of America's best,
He'll be a man they'll test one day,
Have him win the Green Beret.

Fighting soldiers from the sky,
Fearless men who jump and die,
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Beret.

Silver wings upon their chests,
These are men, America's best,
One hundred men we'll test today,
But only three win the Green Beret.

Tiger's a world class althlete and all, but I wonder how his conditioning will compare to men who could chew through and tank and still want desert?

I was an Army Helicopter Pilot and ours went something like:

Put Silver Wings Upon My Chest,
And Let Me Fly Above The Best.
I Can Make More Pay That Way,
But I Don't Wear No Green Beret!

Tiger wants to get a feel for what his Dad experienced.

And he honestly believes four days in training is going to get him that? Gimme a break.

I was at Benning over the weekend to see my son graduate from Ranger School. The ceremony put on by the cadre was nothing short of awesome. I was most impressed by the three NCO's who put on a hand-to-hand combat demo.

Hopefully he'll get no more than two hours of sleep per night and they cut him no slack. I have a feeling he is serious about it. I hope the school is.

Sorry,why do I smell a publicity stunt?.
Cynical, maybe, but these good men should have better things to do than babysit a sportsman...........

I have no clue what Green Beret training is about. Suppose it depends on what phase of their training cycle they put him in. If it was Ranger training, based on the "War Stories" I heard over the weekend, it wouldn't matter when he showed up. They'd kick his butt.

Sounds more like a military equivalent of "fantasty baseball camp".

Good for Tiger - he has shown nothing but class and quiet support for the military. When the media tried to drag him into the controversy he reminded them that his Dad had been career military and he would not be part of the politics. He then put out words of support on his WEB site. He has done much more than most people realize, and it is not highly publicized because he does not do it for the publicity. If you hadn't watched golf on TV a couple weeks ago, you might never had known that Tiger and O'Meara went out to an Aircraft carrier to mingle with the troops, put on a demo, and hand out golf items. A class act all the way.

Tiger makes surprise visit to U.S. troops

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Tiger Woods says he regretted not being able to spend more time visiting American troops on an aircraft carrier in the Arabian Gulf this week. Woods and his friend Mark O’Meara flew from Bahrain by military jet to the George Washington on Wednesday where they spent an hour and a half giving a golf clinic.

“They’re out there protecting us and doing great things for our country, putting their lives on the line,” Woods told reporters after carding a two-under-par 70 in the Dubai Desert Classic first round on Friday.

“It was the least that we could do, Mark and I, to go out there and put a little smile on their faces and spend a good time with them.

“I wish we could have spent more time with them, but they have some logistical regulations and civilians have to be off the boat at a certain time. Regulations are regulations.”

On Thursday, Woods described his meeting with the American troops as “one of the most awe-inspiring afternoons of my life.”

I'm looking forward to the media release of his experience at Ft. Bragg.

Another side note: While my son was waiting to start Ranger School at Benning he found something to do to avoid pulling all of the 2LT duty details. He got hooked up with the on-post Special Forces Recruiting office manned by a CPT and two NCO's. My son spent two months going around post following-up on those Infantry soldiers who had applied for SF and needed help in doing all the paper work. Based on what I read, there is a push to increase the SF ops. Maybe they'll try to keep Tiger for the long course?

So what? If he wants to show his true support he should join up. Golf is for those who can't play real sports.

How does Tiger's insurance company feel about the risk of him jumping off a ledge during this "training" and breaking his arm?

Until Tiger proves otherwise, why assume he is going to pi$$ in someone's canteen? Didja ever think this might have a very positive effect on DOD's effort to increase the size of SF forces?
