This doesn't really surprise me....I think most of us here thought that the SF fiasco would be copied.

Aren't we supposed to be a nation governed by laws?

why aren't these renegade mayors put behind bars?...if there is some legal issue I'm not aware of please tell me.

I hope these folks understand that they are not legislating acceptability of their lifestyle beyond their like-minded community.

A Town, City, State, or Federal law does not necessarily make something immoral (heck, illogical) correct. It simply is an endorsement by politicians.

If we based our value systems on that of what politicians provide us.... we would be doomed.

And so the chaos spreads ...

We seem to be having an interesting shift in the duties of the branches of government here. The judiciary is now making the law and the executive branch (at least in the case of San Francisco and now this guy) is interpreting them. With all of this going on, the actual function of the legislature is all but becoming obselete.

New Putz, New York is a bizarre place even for a college town -- probably because the SUNY school of arts is located there.

It's too bad, because that part of New York is actually a beautiful place -- it's sort of like the southeastern gateway to the Catskill Mountains region.

Well, apparently our laws or more of a menu, and one particular group (liberals) gets to pick which laws are to govern us.

Can any poly-sci buffs verify if this qualifies as "anrachy" or "fascism"? I was under the impression that anarchy doesn't involve elected officials... I think it's better called fascism.

We as a society have no right to discriminate in marriage

When people say that gay marriage is a slippery slop that will lead to polygamy and other forms of marriage the gay rights people say "thats just silly" and that no such thing is going to happen. They also continually cite the "equal protection" clause of the Constitution and that gays who want to marry shouldn't be descriminated against.

But wouldnt denying polygamists the right to marry multiple partners violate their equal protection, civil rights, and be a form of discrimination?

For the gay marriage crowd to be honest and consistent, they would have to say yes and campaign for polygamists rights too.

With all the thousands of "marriages" that have taken place in SF, I have been very disappointed that no polygamists have attempted to get a license and married. I would like several to try, and if denied the license to protest loudly and publicly.

What if a conservative mayor somewhere where to use this guy's "it's my moral obligation" argument to shutdown all abortion clinics in his town?

He's got time on His side. I don't know how long Sodom and Gomorrah existed as they did before God did something about it, but at any rate I believe very much that "to whom much is given, much is expected" On that basis, I would venture that we are much deeper in the crap than Sodom and Gomorrah.

Nothing to Worry about here, Effin Kerry says that Gay Marriage is just a state issue.

OF course, Rosie is a nY resident and she just got married in SF. Maybe now she will go to New Putz and request that they RECOGNIZE her California marriage.

Is it still just a state issue then?

What if a conservative mayor somewhere were to use this guy's "it's my moral obligation" argument to forcibly remove minor children from the custody of homosexual "parents"?

Yes, the chaos is spreading. From the Des Moines Register today:

Iowa City 15 gay, lesbian couples to test marriage law

At least 15 gay and lesbian couples in Johnson County say they will request marriage licenses today to test a state law that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

"I fully expect to be turned down, and that in itself is significant," said Janelle Rettig, who organized the event with her partner of 15 years, Robin Butler.

Rettig said homosexual couples have been emboldened by news that President Bush and Republican leaders support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution banning gay marriage.

State lawmakers this week took a symbolic step to support such a ban.

"What is missing from this whole debate is that these are real people with real concerns and real families," Rettig said.
