Most TV shows in America for export are filmed with extra "tit" bits. You would be suprised that shows you see in America are much more racier overseas.

"I guess Freedom of Speech is a thing of the past...... "

Your concept of free speech is pure fantasy.

Private property trumps speech. You are not free to speak in my house, nor on anybody elses property. You must have permission to speak. If you are offensive (judged by the property opwner)you will be removed from the property.

Clear Channel removed Stern from their property.

Do you prefer to retain the concept of private property?

Censoring radio shows for whatever reason, coupled with the federal election censorship of politically related "free speech" prior to elections, signed into law by president Bush could be used to assert that the "first amendment" has been negatively impacted by team Bush/Ashcroft... and I think it will be asserted by the left. This is actually dangerous politically, janet jackson nipplesnotwithstanding.

Most of the latest self-righteous moral outrage over broadcasting has come from CONGRESS, not "the Bush Administration".

My cable channel has the option of viewing X rated movies. (Pay per view). That's where Stern should be. That way, noone is trampling on his "free speech", and he'll probably make even more $$$$s.

I've watched and listened to Stern in the past. I found him somewhat amusing at times, however he became a parody of himself.

Put his genre where it belongs.

I'm crying a river for Howard. He started out OK but his show went to crap after his movie came out. He started actually believing what he was shoveling. He should have taken the hint when his wife left him because she got sick of his show being only about talking women out of their clothes and copping a free feel.

be careful what we ask for...

folks COULD turn howard off or over.
Censorship is not a good thing... it's dangerous and subject to abuse by those in power, either now or later.

Some folks who call themselves conservatives, would go back to prohibition, if they could. "We have new technology now, perhaps it would work better this time..."

nanny state lite is easily morphed into becoming nanny state, the full edition. oh well.

It should be obvious to anybody with a brain in their head that your vigorous defense of the Orthodox Church rings hollow in light of your slathering worship of Howard Stern.

See the problem is that the FCC has no standards. All radio and television broadcasters - to borrow a phrase from Animal House - are always on double secret probation. They never know what they will be fined for and for what reason. The FCC is totally arbitrary in their censorship criteria. When you live under a system where no rules are in place beyond the whims of the overlord it is a tyranny. If you want broadcast standards to be fair - write them down so people know what is allowed and what is not.

"add to that some politcal censorship prior to the upcoming elections... and we have the makings for a popular revolt against "CENSORSHIP" of free speech... whether or not it's fair."

While I agree with most of what you said above this snippet...I think you're assigning the "popular revolt" in the wrong direction. From what I've seen, it has been the populous which has been pushing for this censorship. From CFR to "the boob"...it is the people who have been crying foul. One can only hope we will find some balance, but for for now, it appears this is what the people are demanding.

I do not advocate for any church. I enjoy talking about religous theology and history and I can do so without advocating any church or belonging to one. Scared of the freedom I have? Boo!

What are all of you going to do when a Democrat gets in office and is offended by Rush Limbaugh?

Why they will scream "censorship" of course.

"Censorship is not a good thing... it's dangerous and subject to abuse by those in power, either now or later."

Censorship is a great thing. It is a mark of civilization, provided that the censorship is performed by individuals within the realm of their own private property.

Censorship that prevents men from speaking freely on their own property is tyranny.

Let Stern buy out Clear Channel and speak freely.

Note: People are not allowed free speech on community property either (like the airwaves) because it is jointly owned. Democratically assigned community standards should prevail in such instance. Congress is correct to define community standards for publicy owned airwaves.

"Not the censor's side."

This isn't censorship, it's Clear Channel deciding that they don't want to take the risk of carrying his show on the radio stations they own. It's property rights. Howard is STILL free to speak - but no one owes him their soapbox.

I don't listen/watch Howard because of the vulgarity.

It's a shame because, unlike Imus, the guy can actually be really funny, but he just can't control the nasty side.

Since everyone knows what he's like -- one then is faced with the question, should it be allowed? I'll have to think about that one, and let you know.

You also think Robert Novak is a traitor for outing somebody who was already outed, and you think John Kerry's military history should be off limits.

You're quite the contrarian, as nobody agrees with you, on either of these two issues.

Kinda like "civil marriages are a sin." Nobody agrees with you on that, either.

"We owe the boob our gratitude. Bow to the boob!"

Those with boobs must also bow down to the "Latex Solar Beef" - Frank Zappa (/sarcasm)

Seriesly, something was going on under the surface of society for weeks before we saw a boob on the 'boob tube'. I get a sense of revulsion at what is presented as entertainment when we only want the TV on as a babysitter and background sound for ourselves while we are doing other things. Background media is important because most of what we do is usually ritualistic and symbolic; just basic routine things. So we need something to keep our mind occupied while our bodies do basically mechanical things.

It only takes a spark to start a fire. And there is a lot of dry underbrush around to fuel a fire:) I want to see a poll about this sort of discontent. It is everywhere, and I live in L.A.
