How in the world did that socialist, American-hating, French-butt-kissing country Canada make #3? What a travesty.

"... 8th: Holland."

Pretty darn good for a great country that most Americans can't quickly find on a map.

America owes The Netherlands huge credit for what they did for us politically during the Revolutionary War.

Because, unlike a few with that opinion, the majority of the U.S. knows what's what.

Laddiebuck, it's not Canada that's evil, it's the Grits.

Can't speak for anyone and wouldn't try, whether Canadian or American, but I'd wager 5 figures ANY time you like that the U.S. would absolutely welcome Alberta and Saskatchewan as states, merely by their request.

I'll make you a second wager, too: if Martin insists on compensation, the U.S. will cheerfully give up Maine, at least. Might throw in another state, too, say VT or MA -- but contiguity MIGHT be a problem, wouldn't it? (w!)

You can keep the Maritimes; the U.S. doesn't need and likely wouldn't accept as an add-on a generally white version of Gary, IN or Washington, DC.

Perhaps that little swine Martin might have to accept a draft choice to be named later.

DO have a nice day, won't you?

Countries liked for what reason?

Great question!

Is this a popularity poll?

"Like to read about?"

"Like to visit?"

"Like to live there?"

Dumb question.

As an Australian,my top ten would be as follows:

1.New Zealand
2.USA
3.UK
4.Israel
5.Italy(for shaping Sydney culture)
6.Greece(for shaping Melbourne culture)
7.Ireland(for both of above)
8.Canada
9.Brazil
10.Switzerland

Dishonourable mentions to South Africa and Zimbabwe, but thanks for the new Australian citizens.

I'd like to visit Germany but don't think I want to live there, same goes with most Scandanavian countries. I can live in England or the Netherlands, Italy or France. I can also see myself living in Namibia,Zambia,South Africa,Seychelles, even Madagascar. Definately if given the opportunity I can live in New Zealand or Australia. I'd have to investigate the Pacific Isles first. Right now I'm here in the USA but if I won a lotto, that wouldn't be so :)

No rule against moving, is there? (w!)

So I have heard. From the few Pacific Islanders I've met (don't run into too man here in NY) I can believe it. When I get old and crotchety, I want to retire to a lean-to in a very quiet, warm isolated part of some small island, maybe Fiji.

Canada???? No one likes Canada.

Heck, after this week, even the Canadians don't like Canada! But SAJ is right, it's not Canada, it's the current government. Little Paulie and the Grits are taking a real pounding on the sponsorship scandal and now - finally! - there may be a nationally viable Conservative Party to take advantage. Poor Martin probably wishes he was the one who'd taken Dar Heatherington to Vegas - and stayed there! :)

I'm biased because my g/f is half-Fijian and i've visited her family twice there, but it is very, very nice there despite recent problems.Alternatively, you could just buy one of the thousands of islands near Australia/NZ for a few shiny American coins.

Clemenza's Top 10: Italy, Spain, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Costa Rica, Poland, Israel, Switzerland, Turkey, Chile.

My choices are guided both by those nations foreign policy and my personal experiences with the respective peoples and lands. While I appreciate Britain's support of the US in the past century (sometimes for less than altruistic purposes), I've never really cared for Brit culture and the weather in London during the summer made Seattle look tropical by comparison.

For all practical purposes, many are no different than Americans, particularly the farther away you get from Quebec.

Ontario and the maritimes have the lefty politics of New England, with worse weather and duller people (although the Newfies are rather colorful!). The western provinces are OK though.

Not sure if 9th is good or bad. Quite frankly, I'm suprised the average American even KNOWS of 5 other countries.

My list: Israel, Britain, Taiwan, Australia, Estonia, India, New Zealand etc.

I'd put Colombia in my top 15. However, it has the second greatest leader in the western hemisphere (Viva Uribe!) and the most beautiful women as well.

Now if only the people will wake up and start supporting Uribe's economic reforms!
