Tancredo blasts immigration plan
Los Angeles Times via Boulder Camera ^ | January 11, 2004 | David Kelly

CENTENNIAL — The phone rang, and Carol Koeppen picked up.

"Congressman Tancredo's office," she said.

Pause.

"I know you're furious," she replied gently. "A new party? You want to draft the Congressman for president? I'll let him know."

It was call No. 260 in less than two days. Angry voters were vowing to chuck their Republican Party membership into the nearby South Platte River over President Bush's proposal Wednesday to allow millions of undocumented immigrants to work here legally for a period of time.

< SNIP

The combative Republican hails from one of the state's major GOP strongholds, a Bush bastion that voted 60 percent for the president in the 2000 election. But in the past two days, Tancredo has shown up on nearly 25 news programs bashing the new immigration plan for "rewarding illegal behavior."

"There has never been an issue, never been any kind of event triggering the kind of response we've had so far," he said. "I don't think the (administration) understands the depth of feeling and emotion that surrounds this issue."

People are fed up. They're full of sarcasm. (With apologies to the poster). For once they want our country put first and they want the politicians to listen. Only then will things begin to change - for the better.

Thanks. I wish Tancredo would go up to New Hampshire, draw a line in the sand (well, make that snow), and urge real patriots to write his name in for President.

If Tancredo could get 30% of the vote, maybe even Karl Rove would realize how idiotic this amnesty proposal is.

Last time Bush talked about an amnesty program (a few months ago), I sent a letter of complaint to the White House. I sent a photocopy to Rep. Tancredo's office with a campaign contribution. However, I forgot to let the White House know that I had made a campaign contribution to Rep. Tancredo.

It's time for a do-over. This time I will make sure the White House knows that Rep. Tancredo is getting my money.

For once they want our country put first

Bush's man in the Trade office, Robert Zoellick, seems to think that flooding our markets with cheap products produced by peasants puts our country first.

Well, we have to have cheap products made by foreign peasants, or what products will all of the peasants here be able to afford?

Tancredo will need all the help he can get. From the tone on FR, it sounded like rove will be doing all he can to get rid of a troublemaker in their midst.(withholding party funds maybe?)

The President's proposal is an excellent first step in dealing with illegal immigrants. Add electonic fingerprinting, background checks and documentation for all foreign visitors, including those 28 european countries and Canada and we will have come a long way to recapturing our security. In addition, we need some type of punishment, jail time in Death Valley for Northerners or ANWAR for Southern illegals and we will have a real deterent. In addition lets have 1 year of jail time for employers who flout the laws........1 year per employee.

I don't think he is. Heck, he'd have my vote right now if he were running, but I have heard rove thinks he's not following the party line in a straight enough line.

I like your ideas and they would greatly "enhance" the proposals offered.
