I am hoping that the collective "hitting bottom" that may have to happen isn't fatal. I have my reasons why I think that whatever happens in terms of (take your pick) war, terrorist whackos, economic FUBARism, social chaos, etc - will ultimately result in a healthier situation. For those that are left.

And it is not because I think Jesus is coming. I'm not saying he isn't, but that isn't my "belief system".

Speaking in terms of yoga philosophy or Buddhism, attachments to the world lead to suffering. I consider that society as a whole has too many attachments (addictions?) to things that are not only unnecessary but downright vicious or harmful. On many different levels, personal and social.

Some examples of unnecessary or harmful attachments could be the porn industry, Hollywood phantasmagoria, hateful excessive taxation, a lot of "ideas" about how the government should be run or what its responsibilities are, the concept that personal gratification trumps personal responsibility, etc etc.

...little j......

I like your list of "addictions".....to which one might add....

faith in "definitive" cliches that merely serve to put blinders on our perceptions, and force us to see the world as a "total good" vs. a "total evil."...thusly relieving ourselves from real responsibility and the need for real sensitivity within our understanding.

the reliance on the concept of "authoritative leader".....(or now, with more sterility..."elected official"), who, if "of the good"...shall bring about FOR US the life we want to lead.

the GAME........reality can be seen as a game , with "winners" and "losers"....(who, when they have lost, even if they were not playing and even denounce the game, are now "whinners")

the addiction to "historiocity"......the numbing down , dumbing down of our immdeiate involvement with eachother by the submergence of our SELVES into the "grand war" ..."the big story"....necessitating, of course, the Major Concepts.........over-blown and in ridiculous attire,.....which allow us to be spectators instead of human actors on the earth, our home.

these, and many more
