[ Republicans show they can out-Democrat Democrats ]

Very clever double speak.... This lie assumes there is a difference.. The truth is the word Republican does NOT mean conservative... and thats a good thing... the truth.. If you want to VOTE conservative you have little or no options... except to vote for somebody thats has'nt a prayer of winning(3rd party)...

Evidently Americans have generally been moronified down to socialists.. and it seems to getting worse not better.. Throw them a bone(tax cut) and rape them when they bend over to pick the bone up... -AND- they don't see a connection between the two events... even dogs are smarter than that.... sad and a PITY... Americans generally seem to be licking the face and hands of their betters as Beta pack members and presenting themselves to be "ridden" in the most disgusting way...

( ME ), Oh! just a lone wolf growling, watching, and considering becomeing a wolverine if its even possible..

Factor in the payroll taxes, FICA, MEDICAD and a host of other taxes which we pay but never will be reimbursed for, he's not far off the mark.

When I say 50% I'm combining FICA, State, Sales, Federal, and all local taxes. I'm single, no property, and work in New York City. It might not be 50% but it's darn close.

I've thought about purchasing a home, but I detest the thought of commuting 2 hours to my place of business and home prices in and around New York City are out of my league.

However, I'm going to see about getting a good accountant to help me lower my tax burden.

Or I could just support, campaign for and donate funds to a candidate that is in favor of a simple flat tax :>

All's I know is I will cross that Bridge when I get to it. I don't think anything will happen for quite a while. My guess is that the pols will squeeze as much blood out of the citizens w/out breaking them. Slowly, of course.

Folks need to understand that the "starve the beast" idea is intellectually bankrupt

I would be interested why you think one of Friedman's theories is intellectually bankrupt?

Have you compared federal interest rates, revenue and spending at the end of Carter's term and at the end of Reagan's terms? Are you using that template to make your conclusion? Does it fit?

as is the "Bush will be more conservative in his 2nd term idea."

Do you think he might be more liberal leading into the 2006 congressional elections? Do you think he might be more liberal as a lame duck in his last two years? Do you think he would be less conservative than the Democratic nominee?

Just curious.

Yes, I agree, for now anyway. At least I am somewhat heartened though to hear the faint whisperings (in some corners) of devising a way to split the Republican party possibly into two separate and distinct parties and not try to start up a new third party or attempt a takeover of a current minor third party as that requires much unnecessary work and time, at least so goes the general argument.

I don't know if it is possible but what I do know is that the chasm that is currently splitting the party apart now in ideology and actions cannot continue indefinitely unchecked. As a lifelong conservative Republican I find it so hard to continue the charade of supporting and voting for (RINO) Republicans who claim to be conservative but who sell me and my beliefs out in a heartbeat when it suits them after getting elected and then have the gall to expect me to continue supporting them because they know that we conservatives have no other place to go (as is currently the case).

I for one say that if it takes the splitting up of the current (socialist seeking) party or to just break away to stop the charade and the destruction of our nation and way of life then that may well be the way to go. The [left] wing of our party has become so infiltrated with big spending socialist (former) Democrats aka RINOs that something is going to have to give sooner or later IMO. I just hope it's sooner before it is too later for later.

Conservatives said "screw you" to Republicans in '92 and now the GOP is appealing more to the center for votes....

Uhhh...I think it was the other way around, as the GOP leadership is doing now.

The eventual results may sadly be the same.

Cato is.

Dane, old girl, you seem to have answered the wrong question. You are REALLY having trouble on this thread. Better put down the j.

Spliting the party would be a bad idea... The obvious answer, as I see it, is straight talking conservatives along the model of Ann Coulter.. Call traitorous action what it is, and domestic socialist and communist(socialism) actions what they are.. For that is really what we're dealing with, not some sophisicated Euro-idealism..Yes, call a spade a spade and not a funny shaped club

AT every oportunity and in every place cutting the Gordian Knot of semantics with the in you're face stink of it all.. The invasion of american capitalism by domestic socialists is wholly well advanted sedition.. Ann Coulter is not over the top. If anything she is a reasoned approach to what should be outrage..

Most democrats have no idea they are socialists because they've never been called socialists. That should stop. Why!... because Republicans are deathly afraid to be labeled McCarthy'ites... Joseph McCarthy was and is an american hero.. until his honor is redeemed the slide to the left will continue.. Ann Coulter is a genius, she went for the sorest most vulnerable lie supporting the american left... Joseph McCarthy.... expose FULLY this lie and the american left will wither on the vine. Why!... Because their whole legimacy hinges on a "false persecution" that never happened... Open that box of lies and the house of cards will crumble... Shes a genius, I tell ya...

Oh! the corollary questions to be asked, after Ol' Joes honor is fully redeemed... Even BEING a democrat at one time should engender pity.. Consider another stealth lie.. That Ann Coulter is over the top or hyperbolic.. Thats "IS" a lie you know... What she outlined in "TREASON" was not even the tip of the iceberg... The entire "Cold War" was enabled by the democrat party.. She's touched on the single issue dam'ing up american politics today.. BREAK THAT dam and WHOA!... sanity might resume after the outrush of the sewage backed up is sanitized.. IMOO ( in my outrageous opinion..)

Didn't Houston's other paper, the Post, fold a few years ago? What was the Post's editorial agenda?
