A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....12-01-03....Military Monday

A Few of FR's Finest
....Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I had been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that didn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.
There's more of course. We sometimes feature different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!
If you would like to be featured, or would like to see someone else featured, please send me a private FR mail.
Every Monday we will post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :)   If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.
Thank you, and please have fun with us...every day! ~ Billie

Good morning, Finest FRiends. Hope that your Thanksgiving holiday was happy and wonderful. Thank you to all who have served our country in the past, and we are especially thankful to those who are proudly wearing the uniform of the United States now. May God watch over and protect you and bring you home safely.

Good morning Billie, just sent you an e-mail. :)
Am on my way out for the day but wanted to stop by and pay my respects to the men and women in uniform, and retired military. Without them them we would be in a heap of trouble. May God bless them all.

Thank you, Aqua - I got your email. I remembered you are doing John's Two Cents this week. I know it's very late, but Mondays are just the hardest day of the week for me to get the thread posted before 9 AM (my time).

Actually, for me, too, the forum, My Comments, and just refreshing a thread is unbelievably slow and seems to be getting worse. John? Any news about that?

Mornin' Billie. Thanks for the continuing Military Monday at the Finest...

We had a GREAT Support Our Troops rally on Saturday. Lots and lots of support from motorists passing by on their way to and from the mall.

A couple of guys stopped by to join us and thank us for being there with our message.

The first one was a Marine from neighboring Merced who served in the mid seventies. He was on his way to the mall to do some Christmas shopping. He grabbed one of the signs and stayed with us for about an hour.

The second was Army. He was in town from his home in Nevada to spend Thanksgiving with his grandmother. He parked his pickup, stolled up to our location and began taking pictures of all the signs and flags. As we talked with him, it turns out that he just returned from Iraq last Wednesday. He plans to e-mail his photos to his comrades still over in Iraq just to let them know that there are folks here at home supporting them and the job they are doing. He presented an "Operation Enduring Freedom" patch to our leader/organizer.

Salute to my fellow vets, and our Armed Forces.

To: Billie; All
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. We had a very small and quiet one, only our youngest was able to make it. Mrs ladtx cooked the smallest turkey we've had in years only 8 lbs. Love those bourbon sweet potatoes. In and out quickly today, reallllllllly busy here.

In memory of my fellow Vietnam helicopter pilots who were killed in that war the following were lost on DEC 1. God bless them all.

1969 CPT Jack Camp (USAR) -- HHC, 2 BDE, 1 CAV, Age 22, Married, Tolar, Texas
1970 CW2 Kenneth E. Crayne (USAR) -- 7/15 ART, Age 37, Married, Omaha, Nebraska
1970 WO1 Stephen C. Sellett (USAR) -- 7/15 ART, Age 23, Single, Sterling, Illinois

A tribute to CPT Camp from a felleow veteran and friend. Taken from The Wall website.
FELLOW VETERAN AND FRIEND Jack was a fellow veteran,friend and fellow graduate of the class of '65 from Tolar. I knew Jack only a short time and can honestly say that he was the nicest person I have ever known. He was nice to everyone all the time. Any parent would be proud to have a son as kind and thoughtful as Jack. I had only been back from Nam a short time when I heard about his death and it hit me like a ton of bricks. Why do the good have to die young? God rest your soul and we will meet again someday in Heaven. Saturday, February 27, 1999

A Nation's Strength

What makes a nation's pillars high
And it's foundations strong?
What makes it mighty to defy
The foes that round it throng?

It is not gold. Its kingdoms grand
Go down in battle shock;
Its shafts are laid on sinking sand,
Not on abiding rock.

Is it the sword? Ask the red dust
Of empires passed away;
The blood has turned their stones to rust,
Their glory to decay.

And is it pride? Ah, that bright crown
Has seemed to nations sweet;
But God has struck its luster down
In ashes at his feet.

Not gold but only men can make
A people great and strong;
Men who for truth and honor's sake
Stand fast and suffer long.

Brave men who work while others sleep,
Who dare while others fly...
They build a nation's pillars deep
And lift them to the sky.

...Ralph Waldo Emerson

Good morning and Thank God for our troops.

Please Lord, hold all of our active duty men and woman in Your warm and safe embrace. Please protect them the way that they protect us with their selfless acts. Impart to us all the wisdom to openly thank and encourage our men and women who are sacrificing so much to ensure our freedoms and to those who made sacrifices in the past.

Bless our Commander-in-chief and continue to guide him in his decision-making processes. Please protect him from the attacts of his detractors.

We ask these favors in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
