That payment can only be approached by serving in whatever capacity we can ourselves. That's how service to us works and how it should always be repaid.
That's why the Gospel of Jesus Christ, when practised sincerely and properly, leads to peace. People who do live it, are trying to serve others and immulate the great Mediator and Peace Maker. They are trying to serve as He served.
IMHO, in the same manner, we should try and serve those who have performed a difficult taks for us in preserving our liberty and way of life. In so doing, we show our gratitude and appreciation, and we ourselves help further protect and defend our liberty and way of life.
