A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....11-10-03....Military Monday

A Few of FR's Finest
....Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I had been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that didn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.
There's more of course. We sometimes feature different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!
If you would like to be featured, or would like to see someone else featured, please send me a private FR mail.
Every Monday we will post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :)   If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.
Thank you, and please have fun with us...every day! ~ Billie

Good morning, Finest FReeper FRiends. A big thank you to our Armed Forces. Don't know how many watched "Saving Jessica Lynch" last night - very chilling, and very real. The men and women in uniform have always risked their lives for our country, and we must never take them for granted.

Be imitators of God as dear children. —Ephesians 5:1

More like the Master I would live and grow,
More of His love to others I would show;
More self-denial, like His in Galilee,
More like the Master I long to ever be. Gabriel

To become like Christ, we must learn from the Master.

I Married The Marine Corps
Author Unknown

Oh, I am a Marine wife.
I know because I see
That everywhere I go now
That is my identity.

I love my Marine so much,
It is him that I did marry
But without my trusty ID card
I can't go to the commissary.

I stood there at the altar
Thinking I would be his wife
But he had already said I DO
And made the Marines his life.

In my heart I know just how he feels
I know I am his only,
But when he left to do his thing
I felt so sad and lonely.

I was never one to do things the easy way
So I married a Marine
I knew a husband could get on your nerves
So I have one that is seldom seen.

It is like the eternal honeymoon
Gone for days and then comes home.
When he is on my last nerve
They take him somewhere to roam.

If I did not like his leaving-
His command would say "Who Cares?"
A wife is not issued in boot camp-
Along with his other wares.

So, I married the Marine Corps
The Brotherhood of Men.
I know he will come home soon
But I hurry up and wait until then.

Good Morning and God Bless our troops. Update on my kiddos.

Brad is home on two weeks of R&R. He is doing great even with a few minor adjustments in what is normal behavior outside of a war zone. He is wondering how long it will take him before he once again has a resturant preference when he goes out to eat. At the moment he doesn't care as long as it is hot and not floating in oil.
Stu is now contacting family by email after arriving in country. He said that the Taliban shelled them this past weekend. Taliban papers reporting killing 3 Americans while he said that they missed by a click and a half. Nice shootin Tex! He asked for me to think of something interesting and he would buy something for me. What the heck to they sell in Afghanistan that I would find interesting? I guess a Burka?

Our middle son, Jeff is home on R&R. We met him at DFW last Wednesday. As they came through the doors everyone who had been anxiously waiting started clapping and cheering and you could tell that it really surprised them as they came in. He looks well and needless to say is glad to be home for a while. It will take some time to adjust. His first night home a noise outside awoke him early in the morning, jumped out of bed and started looking for his weapon before he realized he was home. I'll try to post some of his pictures when I get a chance.

Since it's Military Monday here is my usual memorial to my fallen comrades.

In memory of my fellow Vietnam helicopter pilots who were killed in that war the following were lost on NOV 10. God bless them all.

1966 CPT Sylvan K. Bradley -- D/1/4 CAV 1 INF, Age 28, Married, Irondale, Missouri
1966 1LT Lloyd S. Smith -- D/1/4 CAV 1 INF, Age 23, Married, Portage, Wisconsin
1967 WO1 Raymond H. Chase Jr. -- 119 AHC, Age 19, Single, Meadville, Pennsylvania
1971 CW2 James P. Delaney -- 334 AHC, Age 21, Single, Lorain, Ohio
1971 WO1 Francis J. Klassen -- 334 AHC, Age 24, Married, North Little Rock, Arkansas

The mission on which CW2 Delaney and WO1 Klassen were killed.

At about 0230 10 Nov 1971, a UH-1H (tail number 66-16036) of the 334th Assault Helicopter Company was launched from Phu Loi on a night flare mission over an enemy contact site located about 17 miles southeast of Saigon. The Huey was to work with two AH-1G gunships which had departed Phu Loi about 30 minutes earlier. 036 stopped enroute at an ARVN compound and picked up an American advisor and a Vietnamese officer, then continued to the target area. On arrival, 036 took station at 2,000 feet above ground level (below the two AH-1G's) and 036's pilot began a radio brief with the AH-1G crews. He stopped in midsentence and stated that he had a transmission failure. The UH-1H departed orbit in a descending left turn which continued to ground impact.

All seven men aboard 036 died in the crash:

CW2 James Patrick Delaney, 334th AHC, aircraft commander
WO1 Francis James Klassen, 334th AHC, copilot
SGT Dennis Michael Higgins, 334th AHC, technical observer
SP4 John Michael Clark, 334th AHC, gunner
SP4 Henry Floyd Dellecker, 334th AHC, crew chief
1LT Raymon Horace James, Jr, MACV Advisory Team 98
Xuan, rank and first name unknown, ARVN
