They most likely know not to put up their best prospect in an inevitable 2020 loss so they’ll probably chuck up a throwaway candidate that’s a woman or a woman/man of color just so they can demonize the Trump movement as much as possible prior to the 2022 & 2024 elections.

Exactly... The PARTY will want BIDEN or someone like him... A past their prime party loyalist back bencher who will muddle through a lost cause trying to keep the base engage for the sake of the party for the down ballot races.
Can’t win, but will perform better than the radicals.
The question is will the primary voters keep the radicals off the ballot? IF they nominate some radical.. they will still lose, but will lose even worse and get slaughtered down ballot.
