These Republicans didn’t like Trump at first. They do now.

In the beginning, they didn’t care for Donald Trump.

“Trump’s a buffoon,” David Searles said before casting a vote for Marco Rubio in the New Hampshire primary.

“He scares me,” Rebecca Meyer said before settling on Ben Carson in South Carolina’s primary.

“He’s not presidential,” Gail Francioli said after backing Ohio Gov. John Kasich in that state’s primary.

Yet like nearly nine out of 10 Republicans nationwide, Searles, Meyer and Francioli supported Trump in the general election. And like the vast majority of Republicans, they support him still.

In fact, these one-time-skeptics are part of the bulwark that is bolstering a President whose first month in office roiled the nation.

Consider Wendy Housel of Summerville, South Carolina. She was so distraught by her party’s nominee that she cried in the voting booth. She cast a ballot for Trump anyway, and prayed it was the right thing to do.

Now? “So far, I’ve liked what I’ve seen,” Housel said.

While reporting on the presidential campaign for CNN’s book, “Unprecedented: The Election That Changed Everything,” I interviewed voters in disparate regions of America. I attended rallies for all the major candidates, as well as both parties’ conventions. Perhaps not surprisingly, given the size of the GOP field, most Republicans told me they didn’t initially back Trump. Even some people who voted for him in the primaries did so only because their first and, at times, second choices had dropped out....

Its borrowed from the standard definition of Cuckold where man enjoy seeing his woman having sex with another man. Cucks are Conservatives who enjoy seeing other Conservatives being screwed by the Left/media

Also Cucks usually refer to the Nevertrump Conservatives, like Ben Sharpiro, Glenn Beck, who are Conservatives but want to see Conservatives lose and have Hillary win

>>he commits random acts of extreme kindness when no one is looking

That is a vastly underreported aspect of Trump. I’ve seen several stories on this theme. Do you know of a compilation of them all?

My grandfather was an NYPD detective from Jackson Heights, Queens who knew Fred Trump, President Trump's father. Back in the 80's when Donald was in the gossip news our mom used to tell us what our grandfather said about Fred Trump and the Trump family and how they were the most sterling people he knew. They would help out the families of cops, firemen, and working guys down on their luck. In 2009 I met Trump personally and chatted with him for half an hour. The most respectful, nice, and impressive person I ever met (and I've met a lot of VIPs).

I threw my support behind Trump when I heard Limbaugh talking about Trump's Presidential candidacy announcement and played his press conference. "I'm rich. I'm really rich." LMAO.

That would be an excellent post. I have heard a few stories of his kindness, but would love to have them all in one thread.

I’ve heard this from others. He must just be a wonderful person to meet.

I started out sending donations to Cruz - then he started losing it and it became evident that trump was the guy with momentum and who was tightly focused so i started donating to him through the rest of the campaign. Still donate each month to help him demonstrate that he has tangible support.

Wow! That’s awesome! You are a part of history. You can say “I knew him when...”

I have been pro-Trump since his speech on Illegal Aliens and Mexican criminals coming across the border for nefarious purposes.

The thing that solidified my opinion about Trump—in which the media was clueless about—was the reaction to the speech, and all the lies and pearl clutching over it.

“Trump hates Mexicans!” was the charge, while anyone who actually watched/heard the speech saw no such thing.

The hyperventilating told me right then that he had struck a major nerve in American politics. We wanted illegal aliens stopped, while the Left and GOPe wanted even more of them.

You’re right. I agree, he’s his own man ... and right or wrong, that is something you must respect.

I think he’s right.

Trump is totally fit for the job, unless you are completely uninformed, immature and blindly conformist.

The problems we face now in the US can’t be addressed by a person who will equivocate on issues or babysit the MSM. THAT’S how we got in this jackpot!

Same here. I love that Trump was rock-solid on illegals, while Cruz was surprisingly wish-washy. It didn’t take long for my affiliation to switch. Trump acted like no politician I have ever seen - when attacked for his wall and deportation stance, instead of caving, he hit back stronger. When asked about ‘tearing families apart’, he logically said they should take the kids with them. And strangely the reporters didn’t argue. I was impressed.

I hated Trump...until his announcement speech in June 2015. He was the ONLY candidate running for president that made immigration and border security is TOP PRIORITY.

For others, they would give lip service to the issue - by saying something like:

“Improve Education, Support the Second Amendment, Restore Water Rights for Salina Kansas, Fix grandma’s outhouse in North Dakota, Secure the border, Increase the tread-wear allowance on Firestone tires, Update the Furniture in the Williamson Indiana Social Security Office, etc.”

They just didn’t seem to prioritize or even understand what that issue meant to the base - but there was Trump, holding it out FRONT AND CENTER that day. And only Cruz gave him any respect...and then even that was tepid. But the rest of the Republicans thought he was the next Hitler. If ANY of those Republicans had respected the issues Trump was bringing up, they could have defeated Trump in the Primaries (in my opinion), but they simply were not capable of it.

Short of “cuckold” - a man who’s wife is cheating on it. It’s used in a derogatory fashion to describe fake conservatives - like Jeb, Bush, George Will or William Krystol.

Yeah, since I was working at the time (federal employee) I was focused on being as professional as possible and wasn't able to savor the moment with this guy who was an American icon of success (I had read his bestselling book Art of the Deal decades ago and watched his show). Since the time I met Trump I've moved on to another job that has put me in some meetings and situations where I've been nervous. Beforehand I'd tighten up my Trump tie and imagine walking in with the same level of confidence that Trump would have in the same situation. It was effective.
