and they can be fun to tease a bit, in the process of trying to better inform them of course

I don’t know if you’re a man or not, and this is crass, but you should have asked them if they were offering the Madonna Special.
If they determine that the previous tenant has moved out of the voting jurisdiction, they will probably go ahead and register him/her and be sure that he/she votes for HRC.
