It’s odd Trump can even make inroads into the New England such Maine and Rhode Island, but seems to be unable to in Wisconsin and MN. What happens to these two states?

Trump has been rising in MN and WI. After what happened this weekend in Minnesota, he'll gain more ground. Don't know if it will be enough.

Northern NE likes him because he isn't a typical Republican. But that may not last either.

Trump is very much a northeasterner, so for a lot of upper-midwesterners, his style is a bit of a turn-off. Also, even though New England votes overwhelmingly Democrat these days, many apolitical types have just got in the habit of sitting out races as the Republicans (at least in CT) try to run "fiscally moderate/socially perverted/always cronyism" types whenever possible. Look at LePage in Maine, he showed what a fire-breathing populist can do in the northeast.

I've lived in Connecticut and Wisconsin, and spent plenty of time in NYC and upstate. A year ago, when I was supporting Cruz, I admitted that if Trump got the nomination that he would win, it wouldn't be particularly close, and that he would be the only candidate who can put the northeast into play. He is running a great campaign, and Hillary is running on smelly fumes.

It might have something to do with Trump coming from that region?
