What Republican Turncoats Forget
Real Clear Politics ^ | August 23, 2016 | Stephen Moore

I asked a successful businessman the other day what he thought about Donald Trump. He turned his thumb down. Wow. "Are you going to vote for Hillary?" I asked with trepidation. "Of course not," he replied, almost insulted by the question. "I understand the concept of a binary decision."

I got a similar response when I asked oil magnate T. Boone Pickens whether he would vote for Trump. He looked at me with a quizzical expression and replied: "Well, who else is there to vote for?"

Right. Who else is there? Yet, amazingly, a caucus of lifelong Republican politicos in Washington are announcing to the world with defiance and self-righteousness that they will vote for Hillary Clinton.

They are mostly former Mitt Romney and George W. Bush operatives. They lost, and now they want people to believe that their anti-Trumpism is a principled act of heroism. They ingratiate themselves to The New York Times, Washington Post and team Clinton -- the sworn enemies of free markets and conservative values.

Somehow this doesn't offend their moral compass....

There was a time to try to beat mr Trump — that times past. -— and now is the time to help Him beat Hilliary.

Do the "never-Trumpers" want to facilitate that? Do they want to hand the left its greatest victory for liberal governance of all time? If they do, they are the unforgivable betrayers of conservative principles.

Yes, yes, and without a doubt they are.

All of the Republicans that dislike Trump have a vested interest in the status quo of American politics. Unfortunately, the status quo for Republicans since Reagan has been talking big and then rolling over to show their bellies to the Democrats like a yapping little dog. Unfortunately for these sad quislings is that craven behavio is not what Americans want anymore.

Don't need to go much further than that to realize they're a bunch of neocon, open borders, one worlder crybabies. Good riddance, we can win without them.

If Hillary wins, their beloved status quo won’t exist anymore.

Do they not understand that? She would not simply be another really bad present. The damage done will be incalculable.

Hillary’s America would be unrecognizable in short order.

Do these damn fools really believe they will still hang on to their power and prestige in a Hillary’s America? What utter fools.

The Never Trumpers think there will be a conservative movement in 2020 to rebuild, if Trump loses. I’m personally of the opinion that many conservatives will just walk away and quit politics if Trump loses. There will be nothing to rebuild and nothing to fight for at that point.

Neocons are okay if they stick with principles.

I heard McCain at one of his election rallies in No. Va and knew he wasn’t going to win. He was “old”, “tired” and didn’t have a good platform with which to take on Comrade Obama.

Once Romney gave in to Candy the Bitch Crowley, it was all over for him. A stupid wimp. He defeated himself with his cowardice. No wonder Obama wiped the floor with him.

Now Hillary. She should be in jail and that is what Trump is promoting. Good for him. Guiliana is saying the same thing. He’s one of the few conservatives with the guts to duke it out with our enemies. The Left’s Guiliani-bashing is nearing the levels of that for Trump. These guys must be doing something right.

I’ve never seen the Wash. Post so biased, not in their Op-Ed pieces which are for opinions, as is the Editorial Page (WaPo editorial writers are largely insane), but in the so-called “news” stories.

The word “objectivity”, “balance” and “truthfulness” have been banned from the paper. Even a Style section article by the WP movie/culture critic “Phil Kennicott” on “Art and Culture” re the upcoming election/new presidency was one of the most biased pieces of crap I’ve ever seen in my 45 years of writing.

Kennicott literally called Trump a “Hitler” who would destroy “degenerate art”, stop funding NPR and PBS ( I like PBS; NPR is the “National Propaganda Radio” for the Left at taxpayers’ expense), shoot all the cartoonists and deport all the artists. Museums would be levelled like Carthage, the National Portrait Gallery would be turned into a stable, and millions of starving artists would continue to starve more, and that’s all within Trump’s first week in office.

At least Kennicott didn’t say that Trump would steal the White House silver. Oh, sorry. Forgot, Hillary beat him to it years ago.

All we have on our side is Trump. Time for Ted Cruz to come and help him. The same for Paul Ryan, a major disappointment in the vein of Eric Cantor (He could have been a contender).

Forget Bret Stephens, Gigot, and many of the other purists or pseudo-purists. Politics is not a game of “purity”. It is usually a game of survival, smears, dirty tactics, lies, subversion, corruption, criminal money, and treason, and that’s just how the Democrats play it.

Republicans no longer know how to play. Ronald Reagan is spinning in his grave at how his skillfully crafted revival of the Republican Party has been squandered away by weakness from Bush I and II, McCain, Romney, McConnell (as much a lying SOB as Harry Reid but Reid kicked the crap out of him), and Boehner (whose favorite song was “Crying” by Roy Orbison).

We are fighting for the survival of America, not the ego of the GOP or any single person.

The Democrats have their lies, smears, corruption and treason all covered up by their own political machine/operatives, Soros, academia and the media.

The Republicans have temper tantrums and fart a lot.

At least Trump has the balls to say the things that we know to be true about the ongoing destruction of our country. He may not be a greatest speaker but damn it, he tells it like it is.

Maybe the Republican Party can no longer stand to hear the truth, or stand FOR the truth. If that is true, and the turncoats cause Trump to lose, the Republican Party will be destroyed (and I’ll work on that with a revenge). And if we survive 4 years of Don Corleone Clinton and her stud-muffin husband, a new conservative party will arise with a vengeance not seen since the destruction of Carthage.

I’ll bring the salt!

Not in my world they're not. Neocon "principles" are like peeling a rotten banana, they're worthless... No thanks!

The rest of your wordy reply looks like something I'll probably read in the morning over coffee, but not right now.

“I’m personally of the opinion that many conservatives will just walk away and quit politics if Trump loses”

We’ve already moved - legally - almost all of our assets out of the US. Since my wife is not a US citizen this was easier for us to do than than for a lot of people. If Hillary wins nothing comes back to the US and we leave for good. We already have the house bought in a friendlier place and can leave fast.

If PIAPS wins the only real option is to run or start shooting and I’m a really bad shot

McCain was the "designated loser" that year. His job was to lose to Obama. Everyone knew that, including McCain. He didn't even try to win.

Romney was supposed to lose too, but he didn't know it. He actually thought the power elites would let him win. What a fool.

I voted for Romney and I voted for GW Bush. I also voted for Reagan and HW Bush. Romney was better than the alternative POS in the WH now but a lot of folks wouldn’t vote and let BO win and here we are. The destruction could have been slowed.

Trump wasn’t my first choice but he’s better than the alternative so I’ll vote Trump because the alternative is far worse.

Looking at who ran for who ran and who the nominees are for both sides is pretty disturbing. This is the best America has to offer? I think not but there are no true leaders out there that will step up or can afford to. My guess is they’ve given up as well or are in need of true revolution to take government back and give it to the people.

Can there be any doubt that it’s either ego or money that drives these people? They have the money so they must be afraid their ego will take a hit if Trump is elected. I don’t get it but what else could it be?

I think for many of the #NeverTrumpers there is a great fear that if Hillary is forced into testimony and a conviction, many R’s are also going to be found complicit in not only enabling and covering for Hillary, but also of being involved with these schemes as well (not the Clinton Foundation, but things like the Points of Light and other scams that they have set up for K Street).

The Clintons will start naming names.

The only time a politician wants to “reach across the isle” is when it involves screwing the American citizen for profit.

That is exactly what they think. The rubes will show up big in the midterms to give the Congress the ability to stop Hillary.

Guess the GOPe is fine with the status quo. Just as it was for forty years before 1994. Not with my vote.
