NEW: Trump, Cruz Face First Test In Virginia Delegate Fight

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Donald Trump dominated Virginia's coal country in the March GOP primary, but Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's strength with party insiders may win him the support of the area's delegates to the Republican National Convention.

Trump's campaign is set to face a crucial first test of its organizational strength in Virginia when state Republicans begin electing delegates Saturday. Those delegates could ultimately help decide who becomes the Republican presidential nominee at a contested national convention.

A few hundred Republicans are set to gather in Wytheville, a town of 8,000 in the state's southwest corner....

rump loses 15M Republican primary voters and will gain no Democratic votes. 70% of Americans don’t like Trump. In fact Trump is now the most unpopular candidate EVER. He has no plan to finance the general election and no campaign organization. You need an organization in Ohio and Florida now. Why would any sane person want Donald Trump nominated?

Really? Pastor Ted and his “gays must die” associates are going to attract the mushy middle? Senator Green Eggs & Ham is going to be competitive in beltway Virginia?

The fact is the bulk of the never Trumpers are GOP plantation voters. They are not going anywhere. Maybe a few social conservatives stay home if Trump is the nom but they always do anyway. No loss there.

Just a little friendly advice: Cruzers should be a lot more worried about Kasich now then Trump. The idea Cruz is going to win the general if he can’t beat no money Kasich is a joke. Multiple polls now show Cruz is 3rd place. That thought should terrify Cruzers because it’s over for Cruz if Kasich starts beating Cruz.

In the 2012 IA caucuses, Romney was initially announced the winner, but within like a week we found out that Santorum won. Except, neither one did. These votes counted as nothing but a popularity contest, and had absolutely nothing to do with delegates.

During the caucuses, voters also elected delegates to the county conventions (though from what I have read, many voters didn’t stick around for this part), who would then elect delegates to the state convention, who would then allocate the State’s delegate to the candidate.

In the end, Ron Paul, who finished in third place in the popular vote, received 79% of the State’s delegates, and Santorum received zero.

Paul didn’t “steal” any of Santorum’s delegates, since Santorum never had claim to any of them in the first place. Winning the popular vote meant nothing. And, to the best of my knowledge, the GOPe didn’t “fix” anything here, Paul just did a great job of getting his people elected as delegates.

Doesn’t seem right. Doesn’t seem “fair”. But it was all (AFAICT) played by the rules. And since I don’t live in IA anymore, it’s not really my business.

What I find quite interesting in this scenario is that a Republican form of “government” (elected representatives) failed, IMO, miserably against a Democratic form of “government” (popular vote). I’ve always been a fan of a Republic over a Democracy, but this one I just can’t explain.

BTW, I read that the rules were changed for the 2016 caucuses such that this scenario could not be repeated. I want to say it was the national Republican Party, but don’t quote me.

So again, the People voted for Mr. Trump
and the whoring, globalist, Romney-McConnell plant
intends to again steal what he could not earn.

It is Trump that is trying to steal the nomination. He thinks he can just walk in without a majority, and they are just suppose to give it to him.
He did none of the ground work that needs to be done to win at the convention.
