This week, in a simulation of the coming July GOP convention, the tumultuous 2016 election took a theoretical new twist. At a meeting of the prestigious legal society, Inn of Court, attendees were randomly assigned to play the roles of real estate mogul Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz (TX-R), Gov. John Kasich (OH-R) and The Republican National Committee.
What emerged was the jarring image of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz forming an independent Trump-Cruz ticket. The match was made when RNC players issued late-hour rulings that favored John Kasich's nomination.
True to the gridlock era, no team appeared to win. Donald Trump bolted the party he pledged to support -- and with a VP pick he has cast as a liar. Ted Cruz, a chagrined man-in-the-middle, salvaged his campaign and political career to join a high-risk third party ticket. John Kasich presumably prevailed as the GOP nominee, though only the favorite of a devastated and depleted Republican party. And while the RNC stood by its brand and principles, it could only watch as the Trump and Cruz teams ceremoniously walked out of the pretend convention.
The game, conducted at the U.S. Patent Office in Alexandria, VA, merged the time-honored four-player U.S. Department of Defense wargame format with The Standard Table of Influence, a landmark classification system of 24 unique stratagems in communication, social media, marketing, sales, politics, law and the military....

BS
Why would they bolt the party they absolutely own?
If the GOPe move against Trump and/or Cruz. And in response, they form an independent ticket, I would support them.
So a Dem wins for sure.
But who is THEIR nominee?
Does Hillary make it to the championship game?
They wouldn’t. Moreover, Cruz, with the backing of Romney and Grahamnesty, and all the other GOPe elites, would never do this. His hundred million plus in Super PAC donations came from the DC Establishment old guard, he would never betray his financiers.
Huffington Post?
Maybe Cruz should realize he’s not going to win, and stand down.
Just saying.
He can be part of our leadership, but not this way. Cruz you are becoming part of the problem.
Trump ain’t leaving the party
If they want to leave him, he can point them to the exit
“Get them out of here!”
Of Course.
Huh? The RNC can issue as many late-hour rulings as they want, but those rules must be voted on by the delegates on the floor. No need for Trump and Cruz to both go third party, as together they can certainly block any pro-Kasich rule.
I just saw a rumor that Huma has been indicted! Hinky site though.
Let the ESTABLISHMENT go and “bolt”.
TRUMP has brought us the only commanding leadership out there remotely capable of wrecking the Establishment.
So, why would we want to be the ones to “bolt”, and to leave the Establishment in place, and with all the apparatus in their hands?
Let’s not let them drive us out. EVER.
If they want to leave him, he can point them to the exit
Get them out of here!
IOW "You're Fired!"
Much of this is theater— an attempt to demoralize TRUMP supporters, feign some hope for Cruzaders that the nefarious games at National Convention can prop Ted’s kissable posterior up and over the line.
How would that work for out for the GOPe? I imagine DOA in November.
They own the voters in the Republican Party. The Establishment owns the Republican Party. That's the major lesson this year.
You got that right!
One has broad appeal, the other narrow. One is a nationalist, the other a globalist.
It’s a ridiculous idea.
“Why would they bolt the party they absolutely own?”

Exactly. The second they leave the GOPe gets what it wants. They can accuse Trump of breaking his loyalty oath, and put one of their own in his place.
Trump needs to destroy the GOPe from within. Not sure Cruz has a place in helping. He seems to be taking an awful lot of GOPe money, and he’s cozied up to loser Romney nice and close.
That’s not a totally implausible situation. I just wonder what is going on inside of Cruz and Trumps head when they started this fight and now can not really back bown gracefully.
Make no mistake...the GOPe finds BOTH of them unacceptable. If Trump goes down, Cruz becomes the paper clean up and they both get flushed. For now they are buttering up Cruz because they need him to keep Trump from 1237. But this is a temporary situation and once that is secured, Cruz will fall back out of the good graces.
this is and impossible scenario, because according to Trump Cruz is constitutionally ineligible.
