It’s A Time For Choosing And That’s Why I Must Choose Cruz
The Louisiana Hayride ^ | February 2, 2016 | Kevin Boyd

Posted on 02/09/2016 6:39:21 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

I have been struggling to decide who to vote for president. This field that was hyped as the "most talented in a generation" has turned out to be a field full of mediocrities. Standing atop the field until last night was a vulgar carnival barker and reality TV star. Instead of a debate on ideas, we have mindless sloganeering and empty words.

Donald Trump absolutely cannot be the Republican nominee. Trump is not a conservative, he has not fought with conservatives, and he has actively aided and funded the enemies of conservatives. It's more than that though. To nominate Trump would be to reward a demagogue for his demagoguery. We're not going to rehash his idiotic proposals and vulgar remarks, but someone like that should not be representing conservatives and a major political party.

Now the task at hand is to support someone who actually can defeat Trump. I hesitated to align behind a presidential candidate and I even gave strong thought to not voting in the Louisiana primary on March 5th. But I can't sit on the sidelines and let Trump get the nomination unopposed....

Trump has won 34% of the vote in one tiny, liberal, irreligious state in the northeast. Let’s see how he does over the next five weeks.

but [Trump] has enormous competence and vision to make his slogans anything but empty

You're talking about the guy who can't even finish a complete sentence?

Conservatives are a total disappointment. They have failed the country with no accomplishment for 10 years. Conservatives are self service bs artists. they need to create results and they do not.

“I wouldn’t vote for Trump. If Trump is nominated I will find a name to write-in.”

You can be sure that nobody will ask you to “hold your nose and pull the lever”. For that you need a Romney, McCain, or a Dole.

He is capable of getting laws passed.

Presidents don't get laws passed. Presidents sign laws that have been passed.

All this presumption that Cruz and all of Congress are owned, yet all of Congress will forego their alleged masters who supposedly have so much power over them and bow to The Donald is a bit stretched, don't you think?

Trump would be every bit the disaster Hillary would be.....

You are underestimating, by far, the disaster that Hillary would be.

I prefer Cruz, but I will take Trump over Hillary or Bernie any day of the week.

<<Not many comments. As a military family, we are proudly supporting Donald Trump.<<

My wife and I are right there with you. Standing tall for America is Trump’s message. I think he will continue to grow in support as more and more patriotic people come to realize this.

Well thanks for letting Freepers know, in no uncertain terms, that you aren’t here to advance conservatism and its values.

Cruz is currently in third.

If that holds, I will regard it as a pretty good showing for Cruz in the Liberal North East.

Electing Trump is a 50-50 bet on whether you get the less recent Trump that favored Democrats and big government solutions, or the new Trump that promises some energetic combination of market and big government solutions. Trump could be the worst thing that ever happened, or he could be the necessary strongman for a desperate time. I do not know which he would be, and none of us can be certain. On Conservative and Constitutional principles, I am for Cruz.

“Cruz needs their money and will sell out”
Only Billionaires should be president?
If you aren't rich, stay home?

I have a problem with that line of thinking.

“He'll owe them money so he'll sell out”

That is why you chose a constitutional conservative.
I do not think for a minute that Cruz would sell out. If he would, he would he'd have a bigger office and better chairmanships in the senate already.

I'm not surprised Trump took NH. He speaks like them and acts like them. Romney won NH...

Please, read your Bible and Pray! You might focus on the Book of Judges. Take another look at the story of the Judge named Samson. Didn’t drink, wild hair, ran around after women, would literally kill you or burn down your fields if you treated him unfairly, slew Philistines with abandon, and finally brought down the Temple of Dagon.

Not a conservative? Surely you jest

1. Trumps immigration stance is a defense of the Constitution. He is right you do not have a nation without borders and you do not have a nation without laws. Deciding who is a US citizen is the most foundational of Constitutional issues. Trump is a conservative on this issue

2. Trump’s stance on taxes is not only conservative but in line with with the aims of limited government. Do want to see a big - high tax solution try a VAT tax like in Europe. Who is proposing that? Ted Cruz. His tax plan would require huge cuts in government programs. That is a conservative position.

The inclusion of a VAT in the tax plan Cruz put forward should disqualify him as a conservative candidate if you are a small government conservative, period, full stop, if you disagree with that statement you are at best a fool.

3. The right to bear arms? Trump has proposed a national Concealed Carry which would in one swoop overwrite hundreds of un-Constitutional State laws. Trump is the only one to propose this CONSERVATIVE issue.

And BTW before you start talking about “He wants to ban assault weapons” look at his definition. Don’t believe the hype put out by liars for other candidates.

4. Trump was born in the US not Canada. If Cruz had used his status to hammer the Demodogs and their illegal candidate - Obama I could have gotten past this. He hasn’t done that. His snide reply to the issue was condescending. Better a vulgar damn Yankee from New York than a Canadian who moved to Texas. The demodogs would tear Cruz apart on this issue.

5. Carnival barker? really? Politically Correct speech codes are as big an evil as abortion, as big as illegal immigration, as big as the national debit. If you do not realize this you are simply ignorant of the damage caused by allowing the left to control the vocabulary. Trump’s profanity is part of tearing that down. The left likes to swear at conservatives but don’t like to be sworn at. Trump is the only one running on this conservative issue. The left hide behind public politeness.

6. Reforming the VA. One of the foremost Constitutional prerogatives is national defense. By extrapolation taking care of veterans is a very Constitutional issue. Trump is the only one doing this.

I’m sorry. I started out as Cruz supporter but can no longer be one due to his leftist positions on Taxes, his Canadian citizenship and his refusal to take on the PC codes.
