No, Canada: Sen. Ted Cruz has formally shed his dual citizenship (2014)

Alberta-born Sen. Ted Cruz has given up his Canadian dual citizenship. The renunciation became official on May 14, roughly 9 months after he learned he wasn't only an American.

Cruz received notification by mail on Tuesday at his home in Houston.

"He's pleased to receive the notification and glad to have this process finalized," said spokeswoman Catherine Frazier.

Cruz's birth in Canada was never a secret. But it proved a political liability, with detractors taunting him as "Canadian Ted" and critics suggesting that his birthplace made him ineligible to run for president.

The dual citizenship came as a surprise to Cruz and his parents when The Dallas Morning News reported on it last August.

I’m so sorry. You’re obviously much better informed on US citizenship rights than a consulate dignitary who dealt with nothing *but* that issue in 1992. I’m sure that that man was just ‘joking’ or ‘uninformed’... As that was his entire job and all.

And my son was never granted dual citizenship. He was an American Born Abroad from day one.

*Imagine* the scandal of a dual citizen trying to say that they’re a natural born citizen in today’s world... shocking.

I also had a son born in Germany in 1965, I also was informed of the fact as a dual citizen he could not be president, so he became a Cinematographer instead, (little bit of humor there)

Let’s see who was in charge in the 60’s...... it was the dems. Maybe that is why the Embassy personnel in Germany were dumb as a box of rocks.

It just sees an odd question to ask of the Embassy and even odder they would pick such a unlikely response to your quizzing.

“So what passport parents and kids had?”
Please explain that obtuse question.

Question to statement:

Alberta-born Sen. Ted Cruz has given up his Canadian dual citizenship. The renunciation became official on May 14, roughly 9 months after he learned he wasn't only an American.

Implying that he just now found out he is dual citizen? My grown up kids know where they were born, what passports they hold and what citizens they are.

Such a brilliant lawyer and debater, gearing up to run for president?
Makes you wonder and another reason for sticking to law and constitution.

The most logical reading of that term is someone who is a citizen by virtue of their birth, as opposed to a naturalized citizen. By US law, a person is a citizen at birth if, A) they are born on US soil (including US territories, military bases or embassies); or B) they are born to at least one parent who is a US citizen. There are people who will argue that NBC refers ONLY to those born on US soil to 2 US citizen parents, but no court has ever upheld that definition, so that is their own opinion, not fact.

Would you please provide a link that supports your statement?
If true, then Jughead has been NBC all along, his mother being a US citizen. Thanks..

as he was automatically a US citizen by birth (”natural-born”).

He was automatically a US citizen at birth,...but not “Natural Born”

IRREFUTABLE AUTHORITY HAS SPOKEN (SCOTUS)
(Oct. 18, 2009) — The Post & Email has in several articles mentioned that the Supreme Court of the United States has given the definition of what a “natural born citizen” is. Since being a natural born citizen is an objective qualification and requirement of office for the U.S. President, it is important for all U.S. Citizens to understand what this term means.
