CEDAR RAPIDS | Conservative U.S. Rep. Steve Kingâs endorsement of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in the GOP presidential sweepstakes was no bombshell, but that didnât stop it from reverberating around the Iowa political echo chamber Monday, a day on which no Republican candidates were campaigning in the state.
Not only had King and Cruz recently shot pheasants at the western Iowa congressmanâs fundraiser, but his son, Jeff King, has been working for a Cruz super PAC.
Still, Kingâs endorsement is seen as a conservative seal of approval.
âIt certainly helps Cruz, given Kingâs solid conservative credentials,â said Steffen Schmidt, Iowa State University political science professor, but he and others expect it to have little impact beyond religious and social conservatives who often make up the bulk of Republican caucusgoers....

Methinks Jimmy Lynch is a little unhappy.
have little impact beyond religious and social conservatives who often make up the bulk of Republican caucusgoers....
A rather backwards way of saying it will have a big impact with the people who count LOL!
Uhm...
If it's impact will be felt among those who make up the bulk of Republican caucusgoers, then isn't that pretty much all it needs to impact?
King's endorsement was never portrayed as an endorsement with national implications, it is simply one of the more powerful endorsements a candidate can get for the Republican Caucus in Iowa.
LOL Like a couple years ago when MSNBC declared themselves to be the top cable news network other than FOX.
Doubt this has any impact at all. None.
I think Lynch just popped up at the bottom of the thread.
Agree. Dumbest thing I’ve read in a while.
Basically he said “this will have little effect except Cruz will win.”
Has Phyllis Schlafly endorsed? Last time she was for Bachman and then I believe Santorum.
I wouldn’t be so sure. Iowa-based syndicated radio host Steve Deace says that King is one of the major figures in Iowa and his endorsement moves votes.
Pretty much. Liberal stupidity on full display here.
Like a little snowball rolling down a hill on sunny day after a big blizzard!!
“little impact”.
Have you ever even been to Iowa? Hahahahaha!
I see you endorse Trump - which is fine as he's my second choice behind Cruz.
What, other than the fact that he isn't asking for donations, really turns you on over Trump, but leaves you cold for Cruz?
Cruz is collecting relevant endorsements left and right and is building his campaign - even a small endorsement has more impact that what you are likely to be donating to Trump or FR....
Real conservatives pull their own weight and don't trash anyone at the top of our hopefuls (for conservatism) heap. Anyone with half a brain will refuse to trash either Cruz or Trump.
Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other FReeloader
PS - If you are one of those who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....
GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!
sour grapes ...
