State Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney will challenge U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna in a Republican primary in 2016, setting up a rematch of her failed bid last year in the 22nd Congressional District.
Tenney, R-New Hartford, a conservative Tea Party favorite, announced her decision this morning in a news conference at the Broome County Courthouse in Binghamton.
Tenney lost the election to Hanna, R-Barneveld, 54 to 46 percent, in the GOP primary last year for a district that covers all or parts of eight counties to the north, east and south of Syracuse.
Hanna's primary victory assured his re-election to a third term last year because he had no Democratic opponent.
Tenney picked up support in the 2014 campaign from some national conservative leaders, including former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., and conservative media figures Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Erick Erickson and Michele Malkin.

Richard Hanna has gone too far this time. He actually claimed that the Benghazi hearings are a personal vendetta against Hillary Clinton. Don’t believe me? Here’s the proof:
While we’re at it, Hanna also supports continuing funding to Planned Parenthood.
This area deserves some decent conservative representation but I hate to say my family living there would vote for him again - well, at least the oldest generation but not the younger ones - bless their hearts!!
Hanna is a leftist, mealy-mouth, lying POS. Go Claudia!
All multi-national politicians should be Cantorized
This is my district, I voted for Claudia last time and I will vote for her again, she is the only reason I stay in the pathetic Republican (RINO Party) in New York, Hopefully we can do it this time and start to turn The Republican party around in New York State. As of now The Republican party in New York are nothing but Pathetic go along to get along, do nothing, apologists for the welfare state.
In 2014, Tenney came pretty close to beating Hanna in the Republican primary (she lost 53%-47%), but Hanna likely would have been reelected anyhow because he was on tbe general-election ballot as the Independence Party nominee and *the Democrats didn’t run anyone*. Hanna is the Democrats’ favorite “Republican,” and they would vote for him over Tenney in the general if thefe isn’t a Democrat on the ballot. Tenney surely will get the Conservative Party nomination, but to defeat Hanna she not only has to beat him in the GOP primary but also either stop him from getting the Independence Party nomination or ensuring that tbe Democrats field a candidate. As I said in 2014, a conservative in the district should run as a Democrat and criticize Hanna (while pretending to be an acceptable candidate for Democrats), so that Hanna can’t win reelection after losing the GOP primary to Tenney.
Multi-national?
I just learned Hanna is supposedly a member of the Republican Study Committee. Weird. Is he trying to bring it down from the inside?
Representing illegal aliens (citizens of other countries illegally in our country) and their employers instead of the citizens.
Claudia Tenney is WONDERFUL, prolife and conservative in every way. She’s not in my district, but I support her, as she would fight the conservative fight for all Americans.
I follow her on Twitter, btw.
“While weâre at it, Hanna also supports continuing funding to Planned Parenthood.”
Tell your prolife friends.
Also tell them that Claudia Tenney is a strong prolifer, as well as an all-around strong conservative.
Hanna should just join the Party of Death, and have the honesty to leave the GOP.
