He’s much smarter than Nixon, JFK and Obama, and the press thought they were all very high IQ. I’m guessing he’s in the 160-190 range. About 130 qualifies one for MENSA.
Really?
I think that was one of his finest moments and he's had several.
Senator Cruz was at his best. He was lawyerly and as though he were in a courtroom.
He nailed Mitch McConnell with dates and facts.
THAT Senator Cruz belongs on the debate stage and on the campaign trail.
Indeed, plus I’m almost certain he has a photographic memory.
I want him to “think like he’s in a courtroom” and “has to win his case.” That way he will win the nomination!
Talking with his people, that’s the impression I get.
If he’s given his rightful time next week in the first debate, he’ll move way up in the following polls.
That's quite a claim. The IQ scale is normalized at one standard deviation per 15 points. An IQ of 160 is about 0.003% of the population, an IQ of 170 is 0.00015% (roughly 1 in 600,000 people), and 180 is 0.00000482% (about 1 in 21 million). An IQ of 190 works out to 6 standard deviations, which is fewer than 1 in a billion people, which would make him one of the smartest people on the planet.
Dershowitz (Cruz’ professor at Harvard), has clearly said many, many times that Cruz is “brilliant”, and his the best student he ever taught.
Shawn Drury, you are a blithering idiot.
Ted Cruz’s views are in line with those of many, if not most, Americans.
Why don’t you see if you can sue your professors in journalism school for malpractice?
Twit.
Cruz was National Debating Champion so he must have a good idea of tactics
But why is Ted Cruz so brilliant? That is my question. It's just my opinion but we latch onto everything Ted Cruz does that satisfies the conservative longing within us. The chorus of, "Yeah I like that right there," doesn't really tell us anything. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm looking for more insight than the argument, "He espouses conservative ideals and does it well so he is brilliant." Doesn't really say anything about the man himself.
Like someone said he is a debate champion. Which indicates for me the ability to be polemically effective in a tactical sense, which is good. But is he doing anything that we haven't said on FR for years, particularly when it comes to handling the media?
So we see these flashes, these glimpses, of what some would call brilliance that we find personally satisfying a kind of, "tactical flash-in-the-pan moment," but I don't equate that with a grand strategy. I'm sure he has one, perhaps it hasn't been fully revealed yet. I guess I'm just looking for him to tie it all together. Has everything he's been doing since he's been elected to the Senate been geared toward this moment? Is he creating a narrative for the national discourse?
This is not meant as a slight. Just trying to understand the man a little better and stimulate further discussion.
Ted’s definitely stirring up the right people. (LOL)
Well, if you don’t know brilliance when you see it .. there’s no hope for you.
You probably voted for Jerry Brown .. so why are you even discussing Ted Cruz anyway .. I don’t think you have any intention of voting for him.
And this is about the level of discourse I expected. I asked an intellectually honest question (not even a question per se more of an observation)and this is what I get. Okay. If you think I am a Jerry Brown voter, then how have I managed to remain here for as long as I have? Surely anyone who voted for him would've been found out by now.
I have every intention of voting for him should he be the nominee. If you can't recognize that what I was asking was of a more subtle nature about the man himself since we are attributing a personal quality to him then perhaps you should ask yourself if there is hope for you.
All I said is I'm not convinced of his brilliance. People on this thread have expressed that sentiment other than myself. Oratory and the ability to fend off media jabs does not make one brilliant. There isn't anything Cruz has said which hasn't been said by just about everyone here for years. Are we all brilliant?
And why am I talking about Ted Cruz? Because I personally do like him. I want to be in a position to vote for him. But what I am not going to do is ascribe to the man qualities I am not convinced that he possesses. It's the difference between discussing the man and being a cheerleader for him.
They meekly accept the meme that he's unelectable - almost as dumb as those who touted writing in Virgil Goode during the last cycle. They also are unlikley to offer any support other than to pay some lip service and their biggest "contribution" is to find faults with everyone who does our side the slightest good.
GO CRUZ!!!
Please read his book, A Time for Truth. You will know him better.
Great points Onyx. I support Cruz. He is definitely cerebral. Palin and Trump are also very smart.
Palin has a natural gift to emotionally connect to people and to inspire them to passionately follow her. Trump has that quality but not at Palin's level.
Somehow Ted needs to reach down inside and let his emotional self shine more. Ted needs to somehow express with deep passion the existential threat faced by our Republic and to show his confidence in removing that threat -- that is in the end what inspires more people to support him.
A good example of this in cinema is William Wallace's speech before his men right before they go into battle at Stirling -- pure leadership and passion.
Here’s a suggestion: Get on the Ted Cruz “ping list”. When you do that, it will allow you to get all the info you want on Ted Cruz .. and what he’s doing and saying.
You don’t have to post anything if you don’t want. You can just read the article.
This way, you get what you want - information - and you won’t have to worry about anybody’s level of discourse - which was very insulting.
