I am not a Trump supporter, but I never bought into the idea of him being a stalking horse for ANYbody. He might go in to knock someone out (as Perot apparently did against Bush), but not to set someone up. He doesn't need the money. He doesn't need the prestige. He doesn't have a philosophical ideology to be moved. That doesn't mean he's stupid, but he has more a set of positions than an underlying philosophical reason that drives his adherence to those positions.

This doesn't mean that he is beyond setting up alliances with Cruz or anybody else, but they are for his ends, NOT Cruz'. Ultimately, it is about him. What is refreshing to many is that Trump doesn't pretend otherwise. You need a big ego to run this gauntlet, at least since the days of President Taft. Trump has that in spades, which I guess is his trump suit.
