Republicans are alienating the 2 voter groups they need the most (Jamelle is concerned)
Business Insider ^ | July 12, 2015 | Jamelle Bouie, Slate

With his angry rants against undocumented immigrants, Donald Trump is a stark reminder of the GOP’s terrible problem with Latino voters. In short, Latinos don’t like—or trust—the Republican Party.

But Trump also illustrates a second, more complicated problem. As long as his rhetoric has a place in Republican politics—as long as it has defenders—it won’t just alienate Latinos. It will offend and turn off voters who have conservative ideas and beliefs but won’t sanction or support anti-immigrant sentiment.

Before looking at this other side to the “Latino problem,” it’s worth examining the first one. In the past two presidential elections, Democrats have won more than two-thirds of Latino voters, reversing and eroding gains made during George W. Bush’s administration. Part of this is anti-Republican backlash after the 2008 recession and the tail end of the Bush presidency, but even more is the intense anti-immigration wave that swept the GOP in the wake of the Tea Party’s rapid rise to prominence...

This notion that the GOP needs to increase its share of the “Latino vote” is often repeated, but there’s no evidence for it whatsoever.

This GOP “latino problem” BS is getting old also. If Romney had won 70% of the “latino” vote in the last election, he would have still lost the election. If he would have won 5% more of the white vote, he would have won it. I think republicans would be best served by trying to attract the people who might be inclined to vote for them instead of alienating those people as Romney did.

I don’t hate people of any color because of their color. I suspect the vast majority of us would agree with that.

If they are liberals, I don’t care what color they are. Their philosophy is evil and they are as evil as the philosophy and the people, they follow. White, black, brown. yellow or purple.

If they do NOT follow an evil philosophy I like them just fine until there is a reason not to.

Jamelle is concerned. How about Shuntayvious, Tawanda, Haraquon, Lakisha, Anfernee, Rontavis, Lekendryk and all the others?

Think about this: if Romney had campaigned to the people Trump brought on stage so they could tell their stories on Saturday, Romney most probably would’ve won.

REPUBLICANS CANNOT GET MORE LATINO VOTERS! no matter how hard they pander they cannot increase their take of Latino votes by pandering. They will maximize what they can get by running on solid conservative Reaganesque principles and maintaining good humor and not trashing each other. The same goes for Negro voters and every other demographic. Pandering to one group or another will cost the Republican candidate votes.

I believe CRUZ is doing fine, its early and I believe he is barnstorming, cris crossing the country and talking with a lot of the conservatives that stayed home the last election. I don't dislike Donald but I believe Cruz is quietly making his mark ( which I believe is his game plan) where it counts and they will remember him and what he said long after Donald has gone away.

It seems to me that the only Latinos that should be pissed at trump are the ones who are not LEGALLY allowed to vote...IOW, the ILLEGALS and migrants who are NOT US citizens....

It doesn’t matter what republicans do, Jamelle Bouie will say the same thing no matter what.

Hell, in 2012 Trump was whining about the GOP alienating mexicans.

Who/where are these conservative voters?

If Republicans don’t allow Dems to stuff the ballot box with illegal aliens they will not win.

idiots try and change the conversation by saying anti immigration. We are proudly and staunchly anti illegal immigration. Why get it right when it destroys their narrative?

If Romney had tried to attract Republicans, he probably would have won. Romney campaigned to win the independent vote, which he did, but he lost the election. I think republicans need to worry about getting republicans to vote for them before they start worrying about other groups of people.

The number one thing America can do to help Latino citizens is to seal the border.

Liberals forget that Latino U.S. citizens do not appreciate criminal illegal immigrants giving all Latinos a bad name.

Anti-immigrant sentiment my ass.

Anyone entering America without permission is breaking a federal law. They sure as hell are NOT immigrants.

I just love how the left is so concerned about helping the Republican party.

Like you said, “What a laff!”
