Amidst the GOP infighting over Donald Trump and an uproar in Congress over the Confederate flag, the White House jabbed at Sen. Ted Cruz today.
Opening his daily press briefing, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest called out Cruz as one who rather than condemning Trump for depicting Mexican immigrants as rapists and killers saluted the real estate magnate-turned-candidate.
The comments came in prepared opening remarks, suggesting the poke was anything but inadvertent.
Cruz appeared earlier today on Fox Business Network and again declined to repudiate Trumps comments.
No, I am proud to stand with Donald Trump. I like him and respect him. And let me point out, theres a reason why so many Republican 2016 candidates are attacking Trump: because they havent been speaking out on the need to secure the border, Cruz said. Many of those 2016 candidates have been vocal advocates of amnesty, which only increases illegal immigration.
Earnest was referring to a comment the senator made in an interview aired Sunday on NBCs Meet the Press. (I salute Donald Trump for focusing on the need to address illegal immigration, Cruz said.) Cruz campaign spokeman Rick Tyler offered a direct rebuttal....

Cruz is smart....he’s baiting Trump and Trump is the shield for Cruz....both of them are working just fine....
I think he’s playing it right for now, letting Trump be lead blocker.
Just right. Looks like Cruz might be teaming up with Trump.
be still my beating heart, if only...
If Josh Earnest is saying something that means Obozo has her panties in wad. Cruz is playing it right.
He and Trump are the only ones who are defending our sovereign right to secure our borders.
Tagline.
You know, if you (and I mean “generic” you) are a liberal drone and your attention span extends somewhere between a bumper sticker and an 11 second sound bite, you’re never gonna “get” Cruz. You have to stick around for the explanation instead of falling for the sloganeering.
Cruz should stay his course. He is not going to convince anyone who cannot handle the explanation. And furthermore, I believe he needs to contrast himself as a truth teller versus the pathological liars infesting this admin from one end to the other. How he does that will require some finesse. But I believe he can do it.

Even the guy that can’t think said something.
Amen to that brother.
Agreed T. Cruz is smart, best of the candidates. R. Perry is not bright, did terribly in previous debates, and there is no reason to believe he will do much better this time.
He’s playing it right.
Trump is tapping into a huge pool of anger among the citizens about the perfidy of our elected who refuse to enforce the laws they passed and took an oath to uphold.
The illegal alien inundation is the only issue that matters.
If we lose on amnesty, we lose everything else.
What’s YOUR opinion, 2DV.....is Ted Cruz playing this just right or making a mistake? (Inquiring minds and all ;)
I personally think Ted is playing it smart. He’s getting the right kind of attention from sticking by Trump.
Not teaming up IMO - I think Cruz realizes that 100% of Trump's support now is ticked off conservative support. I think Cruz also knows that at the end of the day, Cruz will prove far more solidly conservative than Trump will - and while Cruz is not as entertaining in his statements, he remains fearless and direct and handles the media very deftly.
I will never forget Perry’s “Hot Gas” comment. I still laugh when I remember it. What a disappointment he was!
I could vote for that ticket.
I think they’re in league, though I can’t prove it. Ted has to know how “dangerous” this is, which is why all the other yellow-bellies have run for the hills, yet there he stands. Either he’s even braver than I thought he was or they’re a tag team of some kind.
Trump was talking about ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.
Errrrrr!
(1) That they think Trump is not a threat either because he isn't serious OR he destroyed himself with his Mexico stuff
And
(2) That they do think Cruz is a threat so they want to snuff him now.
