The GOP’s Homeland Security fiasco: Why it won’t matter in 2016

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)

Will the Republicans’ congressional dysfunction in 2015 hurt the party’s chances in 2016?

That’s not some liberal talking point—some GOP lawmakers are very nervous about the prospect.

I happen to think the fear is overstated, and we’ll get to that in a moment.

For all the sound and fury, it was almost an afterthought when John Boehner’s House passed a funding bill for the Homeland Security Department on Tuesday, with Democrats carrying the ball and Republicans supplying just 75 votes. This, of course, was a complete capitulation from earlier threats to shut down the department rather than acquiesce in President Obama’s unilateral order on immigration.

And it came after that embarrassing Friday night cliffhanger when a revolt by the hard-line wing defeated Boehner’s bill for a three-week funding extension, and all the House speaker could muster was a one-week stopgap to avoid having the party blamed for a partial shutdown. The Senate, with Mitch McConnell’s help, had already passed a so-called “clean” bill.

The end result is no one is happy. Based on what they’re telling reporters, many Republicans sound downright depressed....

A message was sent in November.
The GOP got it, gave it lip service, and trashed it.
At some point the base decides not to be the base anymore.

Why it won’t matter in 2016

No need for elections...only one party on the ballot the D.&.R...Marxist Party. Besides, Obama probably won't let there be an election anyway. He'll still have his pen and his cell phone.

Unless we get a candidate that will stand with the citizens, the rule of law and American sovereignty, the GOP will go the way of the Whigs.

I’m done voting for cheap labor importers.

They may have big money donors, but they won’t have voters.

The author misses the forest for the trees. There will be millions of new Democrat voters in 2016, never mind the legality. The Illegals will be given SSNs, work permits, thousands of dollars in back EITC refunds, and all the help they need to register to vote and guidance on how to vote in 2016. What will that do to the demographics of the vote and the chance for any Republican to ever again win the Presidency?

Well...it does matter a little, anyway, as they just alienated me completely and I’ll be damned if I’ll give a dime to the old GOP hacks. Someone with some guts will open the purse up, but they better start showing their colors very, very soon.

First time in my adult life I know I won't be voting.

Why bother?

I am more disgusted with the Republicans than the Democrats. The Democrats are the same controlling statists they have always been. The Republicans are little more than traitors. The traitor is always despised more than the outright villain.

I am not buying this. Obama is going to continue to drive deep wedges through the party. At some point, because they can’t, or won’t fight, the Republicans are going to be faced with shutting down the Government, or raising taxes/spending. Since they have not established a fighting, or winning stance it is going to be a devastating fight within the party.

The real issue I see is, the complete lack of interest by most, even to a degree here a Free Republic, about the last Republican capitulation. It is as though everyone accepts it, and expects it. This type of apathy isn’t going to drive voters to the polls. The only good news I think will come out of this, is the voters will probably move toward a candidate who has a more anti-establishment message. Bad news for Jeb.

Yep. At some point the Dems with withdraw their support/votes & leave Boehner bare ass to the wind. Probably on the budget this fall.

Here is the thing. We need to look at where those illegals will settle by 2016, are they blue or red districts? If they aren’t going to change the California vote in 2016, it buys us time. I am worried about red states where the vote will matter.

Actually the status of the Sultan’s actions would not have been affected by the success of failure of the Republicans to legally defund it. The Sultan is going ahead full steam in defiance of the court order “stopping” it and is already funding it well beyond any budgetary provisions. He is moving money around and Constitutionality is no longer even a consideration. The dictatorship is extant now and the ramifications will snowball. We ARE Venezuela and barring some drastic and sudden development I believe we will be in less than two years the USSRA.

I am worried about red states where the vote will matter.

Worst case scenario, they turn Texas and Georgia from red to purple, and Florida from purple to blue.

FL will become the southern equivalent of PA, with huge Dem urban advantages outgunning the suburban/rural GOP advantage. No one at the state level will care, since the state legislature will remain GOP and the House districts will be gerrymandered to ensure incumbent re-election.

For the national election, it will mean that the GOP nominee will have to win all the marginal states (OH, VA, TX, AZ, NC, IN, WI, MI) in order to have a chance at election, since the left coast, the northeast, and FL will be in the Dem's pocket.

Totalitarians do not eliminate elections. They do render them predetermined, though. Dictators use elections in their attempt to legitimize their rule. The USSR never dispensed with elections.

they will be "seeded" by the government in areas where their votes can overcome Republican majorities. That is in the plans. Sue shared a conference call the other day among the Sultan and the Cabinet heads that lays it all out. Levin had her on his program and the transcript of the call has been put on FR already.
